i need help! i need a contemporary subject that is contraversial and i need to write a classical argument on it. abortion... i dont really care..., drugs and drinks.... i dont care either, whatever people want to do with their life is their decision..
but thats all i can think of. well tehre are many more that i can think of but BAHH i need help! so if anybody would like to suggest something that i could write about, that'd be a big help! thank youuuu!

I'd write in on Evolution and Creationism. Educate your class on the wonders that we don't need a God for.

how about the growing gap between those in poverty and those that live in palaces?
or maybe the necessaty of crime in society.
or the cycle of crime due to conditions present in a life of poverty.
or maybe the ethics of business across the world, how workers are forced to work for less and less wages in harsh,
unsafe conditions, so those who run the business gain more and more money.
or maybe the worlds dependency on currency.
or true capitalism versus communisim or socialism.
or the link between poverty and race
or poor treatment of those who live in poverty.
a little advice though, stray away from abortion, creationism, evolution, and death sentence. most people already have
a strong conviction on these subjects, and these heavily focused on right and wrong, yes or no. choose a gray subject.

What about the enviromental issures like polution and trash every where.
Or how many animals die a year because people cut down trees and take away thier forest.

im thinking more controversial though. its gotta be an argument. how would i argue gas prices? or poverty in america? cus the poverty one.. what am i going tosay? "i am for poverty" "i am not for poverty" that one isnt really that controversial. but im sure there is a way to make it that way.. ahh i must think think think!
You just gotta pick something that you can make a valid argument either way.
Like with animal rights: You could argue that it's wrong to inflict pain and death on laboratory animals for scientific benefit (or for any reason) because they are sentient, living things, or you could argue that letting people suffer and die from diseases that could have been prevented or cured by experimenting on animals is morally indefensible. (My own opinion on that: disease prevention is one thing, but torturing animals for a longer lasting hair spray is just stupid.)
What it boils down to is, pick a good topic, pick a side, write a convincing argument for your side. Oh, and a thesarus is your best friend!
BTW, the Terri Schiavo case would probably work good too.

How about space? Who owns it? I mean in terms of media outlets and satellites. More abstract would be- What's going to happen in the future when there's civilian space travel. Who will get to participate, and who will be left behind?
Also the digital divide is still prevalent.
Clasrooms: a source of instructional discourse- or a control mechanism.
Are we using technology or does technology use us?
Is the medium or the content the actual message people receive?
Are aliens from other worlds among us? does that kind of phenomen require academic backing?
Not really controversial issues, but interesting things to think about.

-creationism (oh, no wait... intelligent design) being taught in classrooms vs.
evolution
- the use of "under God" in the Pledge of Alligence
-gay marriage/gay rights
-standardized testing-- do they really test your knowledge? or just test your test-taking skills?
Abortion is usually a big issue. Mainly anything involving choices that differ from one person to the next will almost always be controvertial, because it's impossible for everyone to agree on one thing.
About religion's role in the USA (well isn't thanks to that that in some school there's no evolution
learnt... and isn't it puzzling that you have to swear on a bible in a court even if you aren't a christian)
or secularism... Funny that the USA would like more secularism in Iraq.

these are all good ones. but most of them seem to be non controversial.. the ones that are controversial are things i dont want to write about or things i do not care about. so yeahhhh. but the gas prices and the legalizing marijuana(well in my case to legalize just to make my teacher mad) (and yes we can write about illegal things too like cuban cigars and what not). i still have like a week left. i shall wait for more suggestions!
About waving some flags and supporting no matter what the president isn't patriotic ?
(Happy that I've never to do this kind of things... or maybe a little, I had a french exam where we have to say if male was superior to female or the contrary and to say why... not really the kind of things you would expect in a french exam)
