Happiness, yours over others or the other way around?

I consider someone who has no problem in life a happy person. But if you were depressed and had a friend who was depressed too, would you help your friend get better or would you complains about what happens to you? As for me, my friend's happiness is my only matter. I really don't give a damn about what happens to me, as long as they can live happily.

I would probably go with my happiness first. Maybe this sounds selfish, but I've learned that friends won't always be around. Take graduation for example, I only keep in touch with a small handful of my really close friends now and I haven't even seen like 90% of them since I got out of high school. It's your life so focus on helping yourself first before helping others.

That's a great philosophy, but you shouldn't forget about yourself completely.
I can't say that one is more valuable than the other, but there are certain situations where one might be more prevalent and thusly be more paramount at the time.
So, in general, I'd have to say I consider them equal.

Although, usually for me, when I make others happy, I myself feel happier. ^^

Everything happens for a reason, the key to life is to learn what matters most, is that your Answer?

Focus on yourself first, if ya are happy - you can make others happy. I'm still working on my own, cause making other's happy is a generic patch over my own. Just cause they smile, what about you? The feeling needs to be permanent, but nothing in this world seems to be 100% happy go lucky all the time. As long as the happiness comes from the self, it can reach others as it overflows from within.

To me, my happiness is built on my loved ones' happiness, so it works both ways.
I don't think i can be happy if they're not.

Human beings are selfish by nature, and I don't think there's a single human being alive who cares absolutely nothing for their own happiness. (Even if they sacrifice that happiness for the sake of someone else, it doesn't mean they don't actually care). As for me, I try to even things out as much as possible. I care for my loved one's a lot - otherwsie they wouldn't be my loved one's. So if it comes to sacrificing some of my happiness for them to be happy, I'll probably do it. But what I would never do is give up all my happiness forever for their sake - for one thing its just something I couldn't live with, never being happy again, and for another I know its not what they would want in the first place.

i agree with you Nedel, I care more about my friends' happiness than my own. <.< >.> they're a lot more important to me than i am to myself, so i would try and cheer them up, as i usually have to do. lol.

My happyness would come first, but if my friends were ever depressed or sad, I know I'd be there for them 100%.. if they're not happy, then I'm not happy.

The happiness of my friends and family always comes first. Regadless of what I'm going through, if they have a problem I'll devote myself to solving it. My family has told me many times that always putting others happiness before my own isn't good for me. They say all the stress isn't good for me, and I know that but it doesn't matter. If I can make people happy, my health can take a back seat. ^_^

Yeah same for me I don't care about myself but I do care about my friends' thoughts more than mine...After all to me they all seem more worthy of comfort than myself.

I generally put others before my own, but sometimes I put my own first.

If everybody knows just who you are, then your walk on role becomes a major part. Have you ever attempted to be yourself? When everybody wants you to be someone else... Going up and down and back again..

It all depends on the situation and who it is.

It depends on how close the other person and I are. For my best friend, I would do anything.
