From what I know, there's a lot of people who hate Flay Alsteir. I can understand their reason, but I have my own reason to make her my fave chara. Ok, she's can be really annoying, and maybe for some people, she's a bxxxh (sensor mode). Ugh... I really hate to admit that my English is bad, so I can't explain the reason behind my choosing her as my fave chara, sorry.

I shall die before it's all begin... for I don't have any future with me...

It's somewhat annoying and shallow that many of you hate Fllay because you guys support KiraXLacus, or like Lacus instead.
Now I like Kira and Lacus..a little bit. I think Lacus is very beautiful but when Kira and her are together, it looks as if...they're brother and sister...o.oC'mon they haven't done anything yet, and their relationship doesn't have alot of maturity to tell you the truth. Yeah they have a bond, but that's about it.

I feel sorry for and love Fllay. Let me clear out many reasons why people hate her(picked up a few while reading this thread):

1. She is a slut.
I think she's sorta in the middle. She did sleep with Kira(and tried to sleep with him again), was really flirty and acted like a b**** sometimes, but slut is a little too extreme.

2. I HATE HER ATTITUDE.
Let me break some things down here, since her attitude has a wide range.
(a) SHE HATES COORDINATORS!
Well what do you expect, from a girl who was raised by an Earth Alliance Prime Minister? Since she also heard much about what Coordinators were capable of, she probably made many of those comments not in malice, but in fear, and trying to make herself feel better around them. Also, her Dad was killed by them.
(b)She's a spoiled brat!
She was an only child...and rich too....Only child+high ranking dad+lots of money+teenage years=spoiled.(in most cases)
(c)She didn't have to act that way when her Dad died!
Now think about this: if you mother died while you were young and your Dad was your only parent left, would you feel devastated when your Dad would suddenly blow up in front of your eyes? Her Dad was probably the last person that really mattered to her, and there he went, and she didn't even get to say "goodbye" or "I love you Dad" to him. If that were me, I'd be going insane...cause I absolutely love my Dad. Also, he was killed by Coordinators, and that gave her even more incentive to now hate them(and fear them a little more...)
(d) Why did she have to do what she did to Kira?!?
Well...here are a few reasons why: (1)If she didn't the show wouldn't be that interesting,(2) he had promised to protect her father and he failed to. Since he was also a Coordinator, Fllay wanted to use him to kill his own and then die doing it, and (3) her mind was affected by many circumstances around her and thus negatively affected her judgment. Her father's death, the destruction of her home and some of her best friends, being pulled into a war when she had nothing to do with it...the world she knew was shattered, and she took it out on Kira.Kira had promised to protect her father, but failed. She also found out that Kira liked her, and decided to use that for her advantage(sadly...). In the end, however, she grew up and wanted to repent for what she had done. She knew that what she did was very wrong, cruel, and spiteful, and wanted desperately to apologize to Kira, but she never got the chance....
(e) Why the h*** does she have to act so jealous around girls?
I think many girls will understand what I am talking about(and guys to an extent). Now...picture this: The guy you like is being smothered by another pretty girl. Feel jealous and wanna rip her throat out? Try this: You slept with the guy you like and are now together. When another girl even simply starts to have a conversation to him you feel jealousy crawling in to your heart. I don't know how many of you will believe what I am about to say, but when a girl and guy sleep together, the woman develops an attachment to that man, and is therefore, very clingy to him...
(f) She's just really annoying.
Heh, well, so are you whiny people. :D Fllay's a really unique character, and her fans/haters/people halfway there are unique too. She's a one of a kind, somebody we don't see that often in animes...maybe that's why many people don't like her. A little change is nice every once in a while ya know? Not everybody in this world(and the anime world) is a Mary Sue. A good anime and character has things you can relate to, and Fllay offers much to that statement.
3. If not for her, Lacus and Kira would have been together!
This is a little controversial. From my standpoint, I don't even think they like each other in that way(well...Kira doesn't really...but Lacus obviously does). Here's the thing though: Kira is not entirely emo in Destiny because of Fllay. He is very emo because of the effect war has had on him. It took his loved ones and innocence away. Now that's a bit of a mess that even expert Lacus will have a hard time cleaning up. After the first war, Lacus and Kira lived together for two years, and they are STILL not together, so, even if Fllay weren't in the picture, I think it would take them a VERY LONG TIME in order to get together. I'll tell you the truth, even though I'm a KiraXFllay fan, I think Kira and Lacus look pretty cute together....but that's about it. Two people can look good together and not be meant for each other, but GSD hasn't given Kira another option(Meyrin is out of the picture. It seems as if she's interested in Athrun at the moment*hopes that no one will flame her for this*).

4. Poor Sai! She was so bad to him!
I'll agree with you guys on this one. I congratulate Sai for not being mad at Fllay for a long time and even putting her picture up in his office to remember her by. Okay back to the story....
They were engaged by their fathers. Fllay had an interest in Sai, and liked him a bit, but didn't really fall for him...unlike he did. That's why it was a little easy for her to leave him. Pretty sad that she hurt two guys. There's not really much to this though...it's like a typical high school breakup when one person still loves the other and one of them goes to somebody else.

If you have any more complaints/rants/burns about Fllay, I will be more than happy to point out reasonable conclusions from your posts if you want me to. =)

well for some reason i had a feeling that i might participate in this debate about Flay and Lacus. well as for Lacus, someone here was asking about the usage of Lacus' Seed mode if she doesn't use it at all. well that guy had a point but i think Lacus' Seed mode still got a purpose, for an instance is when Lacus is in her Seed mode she can think faster than her usual. and is strongly disagree about the thing they say about her. Lacus is not annoying but she is really boring,you know why? Lacus becomes annoying when she's turning to be very nice to people which is impossible due to the fact that every person living on earth can't be that nice,but who cares this is only an anime and everyone knows that an anime is still an anime. and for the fact that Lacus isn't boring at all. I will tell you the reason, you know that Lacus is a cheerful character and not only that she had a good sense of humor compared to other characters like Shinn who is stubborn and selfish and Stellar who is stupid -_-. well are you satisfied with my opinion?

Lets talk about Flay now. i totally agree with you all. Flay only became that way due to her father's death T_T but come to think of it, what will happen if Flay's father didn't die? do you still consider her to be an evil character? of course not. everybody knows that a girl's personality can change easily when he lost someone or something that they treasure the most unlike us guys (i mean the boys) we can handle the truth but deep inside of us we hide those expressions because we are scared or ashame to show it off. well i think this is the end of my theory maybe ill try to add new things after i finished my project.

Well, what I hate in Fllay is that she's so flirty with Kira. It sort of give me a mixed signal whether she really loves dear Kira or just toying around with him. And she has this seductive attitude.

But no denying of the fact that she's pretty and also the realistic character among the GS characters.

I love Fllay and she is my favorite character in GS(beside Athrun).I was depressed when she died . kira didn't deserve her at all and she was definitely character who suffered the most in entire GS.it's not fair every character i like the most they kill ! so as you see i'm a Fllay fan.

i hate flay, i hate how she goes for kira when she is engaged with sai (forgot his name, haven't watched this show for so long) but she is sooo mean to him, and he was trying to comfort her when her father died. i was sooo glad she died

You say her change wasn't impressive... I say that she died before she could really make amends... and that in itself is a reason to pity her character. She died wanting to see Kira, to speak with him, and most likely apologize for the animosity she felt and the pain she caused him. We see that her last wish is to protect him, with her true feelings. I wont argue her being spoiled, or a daddy's girl, or for being annoying (which she was on occasion) and she did blame the people around her for what happened to her father and her life. If she had never changed and remained static, then no, I wouldn't like her character nearly as much. But liking growth in a character isn't unreasonable, and to grow the character first has to exhibit flaws and make mistakes. 'Course I tend to like controversial characters, and find that their flaws and trails really make for a good story. That's my preference though.

I believe her father was ALREADY coming to meet the Archangel, and it was by chance that Fllay was on the ship. Sai told her that when George saw her name, he was ecstatic. My point is that her father was on business, and placed himself in danger by his own admission. Fllay is not to blame for that.

Neither is Kira though. =/ But she realized this later... which doesn't 'absolve' her, but it makes a much more interesting character.

Fllay was the one who blamed, and the EVENTS, not HER, the EVENTS that happened around her, like being stuck in a ZAFT ship with Coordinators, and all that we saw, is what made her change. *sighs* Fllay WANTED to take responsibility... she was brought to tears while speaking to Nataru... I felt she was sincere. And uh, you really can't generalize human nature like that. Heh.

If she hadn't been surrounded by coordinators/captured by Rau, she never would have been exposed to them. She would have remained ignorant, though I wouldn't say for the rest of her life (since she was just 16). She did rediscover herself... <.<

She's way OVER-RATED in my opinion.

Why does one feel guilt? Isn't it when you realize that your actions/thoughts were wrong? That you didn't see the whole picture, etc? I think it's natural to want to make amends and seek forgiveness when you've wronged someone who matters to you, and there's nothing shameful about it. =/

Kira ignored Sai's feelings just as harshly as Fllay. Honestly, neither of them treated him with much respect. <.< But Sai forgave Kira and I think he forgave Fllay as well, though it remained unsaid.

Overrated, Underrated. Just depends on if you like her. <.<

Fllay ... well, other than her really annoying personality and blah blah blah ... I actually don't hate her. I pitied her character after her father's death and everything. Yeah, some of the things she does really do irritate me, but she matures as the war goes on. And since she meant alot to Kira, I have nothing against her. (LOVE KIRA!) BUT I still love Kira and Lacus :D

I'm not going to elaborate or contradict anyone (you have your own opinions of the character), but I am going to make it perfectly clear that I hate her to the bone. I was happy when she died, and more than a little relieved that she was killed off before she could even reach Kira.

I don't like her nor hate her. As a KiraxLacus supporter, Fllay wasn't really on my good side. But I have to admit that she is an interesting character. She added a lot of good drama to the story

I hate her soooo much! She's so annoying, however I do forgive her when she dies. That part was really sad.

I used to dislike her at first even if I admit to myself she was the prettiest girl of GS (yes Lacus included).

But her evolution was really realistic and in a way different from most anime, especially for a not main character. We see her at first as a spoilt girl, then going crazy and trying to get revenge how she could and at the end wisening up. She was pretty much the anti-heroin of the show, the one that didn't go the cliche hero way, but tried things, fail many times, and unlearn things like her racism or to listen her feelings and discover that other people can also suffer.

I really like her for that, for this really humain and realistic evolution.

yeah, I totaly agree ! I couldn't have said it better myself. All she wants is to see Kira suffer. She makes him have strong emotions towards her and then messes with his mind, enjoying the view of poor Kira suffering.
