I would love to think that every stray animal could find a home, that every feral animal could be trained, but then, maybe pigs will sprout wings, and other bad cliches.

All we can do is help as many as we can, but many still will die. Animal overpopulation is just as bad as human overpopulation--there's almost too many for the world to happen.

But back to the topic of your uncle, that's incredibly immature. I would say "shoot him", but that's even more immature, so I think he should seek therapy instead... or just be locked up somewhere. Shame on him.

Sorry for your loss, but why didn't you just take the kitten in side? And if it was pregnant it's not a kitten any more, that's a full grown cat.

But what you don't seem to understand is strays are not always in the best of health. And some can be just as much of a pest as skunks, racoons, squirrles, chipmunks, and rats. And should they have rabies they are 10 times more harmful than good. But you probably haven't even considered that. If you want to help a stray take it in and take full care of it.

Other wise I see no problem getting rid of what amounts to an unwanted pest in the area. Killed it with a bb gun, what does he have one of the high powered CO2 air rifles? .22s make a better varmit gun.

Also, people who cause pain & suffering to otherwise harmless creatures, or blatantly advocate such vile behavior in others, are more likely to start abusively victimizing their fellow human beings, especially the "weak & unfit" amongst us. All of these animal cruelty maniacs lack any real love within the core of their being and probably transfer that lack of love to those they victimize, whether human or animal. Sorry I hardly come here anymore my personal life is in the way. My Uncle isn't mean to us actually. He acts kind, loves and helps us with anything, he jsut seems to hate animals.

You eat chickens don't you? What about cows? Are any of you a complete vegan? Chickens raised in modern farms nowadays live in abject cruelty. They are crammed into cages and have their beaks chopped off. I think it would be hypocritical to say the uncle is cruel when there is something worse like chicken farming.

I think your uncle sees stray cats to be more similar to rats and gophers. They don't perform any really important purpose in his mind. I mean you would kill flies and like spiders all the time probably. Do you ever consider the ethics of that? What makes you think insects and arachnids are so much lower on the scale of life? Or even plants? Bacteria?

As for which species is better think of it like this. Given the choice between letting the average human die and the average cat die I think the majority of people would choose the cat to die. It's simply a matter of perspective. Humans are bias towards anything not human. After all how can emphasize with a cat who can't speak or tell you anything? The cat probably only liked you cause you feed it. It's logical to think that.

Your uncle is not cruel. He merely has a mindset towards strays that you percieve as cruel. Cruelty is a subjective judgement.

IMHO I really hate stray dogs in my neighborhood. There masters should have at least chained it especialy at night.

Recently I was passing a dark alley and these dogs are perfectly camouflaged with the darkness of the night and lying on the middle of the road.

I was attacked but fortunately I do not panic and escaped without the bite of rabies. Those piece of **** if only i have some rifle i could blow there brains to oblivion 'till kingdom come.

P.S. I wish I could join your uncle in his "hunting spree".

I used to volunteer for the SPCA and I had a big problem with them when a feral cat would be brought in they would right away be put to sleep. I understood that the cat could not be trained to be a house cat (that is if it was an adult) but there had to be a better way then killing it). They could have fixed them and then created a facility where they could stay and be taken care of like we take care of wild tigers and lions. The kittens thankfully can be trained to be house pets.
I am so sorry to hear about your loss! That is such a tragic story! I would have been so heart broken and angry! Your uncle should be arrested!

Yeah of course we could. However, you have to realize that we have a FINITE amount of resources. If we use money to start taking care of those animals then we have to take money away from something else. In a world where tens of millions of children are without food or shelter I think that we have more important priorities.

Not only that ,these cats have almost no purpose. Wild tigers and lions can at least generate revenue by having people pay to see them but there are few people who'd pay money to look at stray cats. The money would have to be from the government or private donations. Obviously the government has better things to do with the money like social security, education, public programs, etc. than take care of a bunch of frigging cats. That leaves private donations. If you want to help the animals you can always take them to YOUR house and care for them there.
