Are you STUPID? The fact that you can be persuaded by such an ignorant statement... I'm guessing that person normally has audacious opinions about things he knows nothing about.
But like Milkiyo said, there are homoerotic animes out there or series that suggest homosexuality (not counting hentai), but that's just a small portion of anime. You can't possibly believe that all anime is gay, that's just insulting :hmpf:

First time I heard that, anime gay? since when?
Usually people who don't know anything about anime think of it as porn, usually either "normal" or lesbian porn.
In my experiance there are a LOT more (lets say 80-90%) erotice fan service for a male audience in your mainstream anime than for gay or female. Sure, the guys are cute, but compared to panty shots, how many underwear shots have you seen?
But as they above already mentioned, there may be specialised anime specifically for a specific crowd. Shojo-ai and shounen-ai, girl love, boy love, for relatively clean but erotic references, and then yuri, which is more explicit lesbianism, and yaoi which features gay porn.
But then I must unfortunatly agree with spybreak, despite the somewaht aggresive acusation, yes, you are stupid if that guy puzzled you. It just means that both of you doesn't know anything about anime and you are too easily swayed by people who know nothing.

I don't know whether this someone meant gay as in homosexuals or gay as in slang for 'sucks'. If it's the first meaning, then sure there are some, but noteverything is "gay" - there are thousands of different animes and probably even more mangas; to say they're all gay is simply an ignorant comment.
If they meant it in the second meaning, then they're just being a narrow-minded idiot.

yeah...the fact is, there are so many different markets for anime.
overall, if you must divide, some 15 different categories.
normal, adventure, action, drama, love, action, eechi, political and scientific, fiction, hentai, shoujo ai, shonnen ai, yaoi, yuri, futanari (i think it means extreme weird porn eg. girls with the things and tentacles), shota, loli/moe, i think the only gay part is the ones explained...otherwise....Click signature for my blog

it really depends on what anime your talking about. these "shounen ai" or "yaoi" based relationships are kinda... well... somewhat cool to watch because you notice that they're a yaoi pairing (ahem, like Goku and Sanzo ^_^) well... it can be gay. don't use the term gay when talking about anime! there's a different term for that you know. like yaoi or shounen ai... but there's NOT much of that... some animes just show (like saiyuki) how much boys care for each other. we're not really sure if they like each other... or not. oh well, it's your choice if you think anime is like that, but I think that anime has a balance on its own. I somewhat hate yaoi but I somewhat like it. I don't know why... OH WELL, ONLY THE PAIRING OF GOKU AND SANZO WILL DO FOR ME! SO IF YOU TELL ME A STUPID YAOI STORY ABOUT SOME OTHER ANIME I'LL KILL YOU BECAUSE THAT WASN'T MEANT TO BE, OKAY?

Well, keep in mind that in anime is where you came find boys that look like girls. Why in Yugioh, the bad guys get more and more effemenate ( Marik in a pink middrift, for example ( he's thinking "Once I defeat Yugi, there will be no one from stopping me from getting the Egyptian God Cards and ruling the world! But first, what am I going to do with these bangs?!"). Then again, anime features things like loicon, girls with 10 year old faces and 20 year old bodies, porn star looking teachers and the promotion of satutory rape. So anime is more disturbing than gay.
