Well im creating this thread to say that the image size of an scan can't be more than a limit allowed. In MT2 there was a limit of file size in megas or kb, 2+mb; MT3 have one greater of 5+mb. There was also a min limit of image size for a scan... but now a max limit?

With this said, i don't understand why to put a max limit to the image size. I received a notification for reupload a scan that was corrupted, 0kb item, and then i decided to reupload it and i can't, due to the image size limit. To upload it or not to upload it does not bother me.

All the things that are being done in MT3 are done without mind. I really don't understand the politic of the new MT. A solid and robust minitokyo would be nice.

Thanks for reading me.

Not really. The upper limit is to preserve bandwidth and not have the site crash every other day from downloading. If we remove the upper limit and people start uploading large filesizes at will, then I'm sure people would be back and start complainting about frequent downtimes. I think the current site is quite solid and robust. The browsing speed has increased from the old MT, and many features are quite useful I think.

Besides, even very large images in dimensions don't need to be very large in filesize. I have scans of 3293x4306 pixels at only 637kb, another 3238x4000 at only 1.39mb, and another 3352x4553 at 1.69mb. These are very large scans, but are way below the 5mb size limit. Pics don't need to be over 5mb to have good quality.

well said, do check that you submit a Jpeg file that is saved at good quality (that in a 4000x4000 res should be around 2 mbs Max) so really, i don't think there is a need to remove the limit. Plus, even the likes of Lord Satorious who is always submitting supersized scans have around max 3.2 mbs at max. Twitch your files a bit and i am sure it would reduce but still maintain a good quality.

how can't be possible to Re-upload an scan of the old MT2, when the filesize limit was 2mb?

my scan is only 1,2 mb, jpeg quality at 10 and resolution of more than 5000 pixels.

If you don't understand:
File size is one thing... image size is another thing.

I wonder why don't you read well... With a filesize limit (mb) is ridiculous to have a limit for the dimensions of an image in pixels. Is good to have a minimun... but a maximum? why? does it represent more bandwith? how can be possible if the size is 1,2mb and the limit is 5mb? this must be a bad joke :).

Think about it...

how large is your scan in dimensions? and why are you talking about image size if your complaint is about image dimension restrictions?

i have said it, more than 5000 pixels, and exactly the dimension is 3481x5209 pixels of resolution. The file size is 1,19 mb and the quality of jpeg is 10 :D

I'm talking about the restriction of 5mb of the new MT3 and the 2mb from the old MT2 because i can't upload an image uploaded when MT2 was a reality. With a limit so high of 5mb... why have a max limit of dimension?, well said as image size.

sighs -.-'

What's important for a scan is the character which can be used in walling. Therefore, you can crop out the unnecessary background/characters and that would solve your dimension issues without a hitch.

You don't need your scan to be 5209 pixels high anyway since the largest wallpaper people will make is only 1200 pixels high. Just reduce it to maybe 2500 pixels high.

Don't get riled up when people mistinterpret your posts. You weren't very clear in what error you were getting and frankly, I've never seen any report of errors regarding large scans.

What exactly is the error you're getting? A 403? Error connecting to database?

and a question to sheqel, what IS this new max dimension restriction for scans?

Some people like me, like to share some scans to be printed, that's all. The people don't tend to make wallpapers now, in MT2 a wallpaper was an excuse to reach the needed level for download without control, Kiopi. Just look at the amount of scans/wallpapers posted now per day :P.

Eternal Paradox no problem, no problem.. :D, but i think i expressed myself very clearly. And it's not an error but yes a restriction which i consider ridiculous (there is a subforum for bug reports only, i was suggesting and in certain sense asking :D). The fact of not being able to upload a scan that were in MT2 gallery with the 2mb limit.. is very weird.

People may have misunderstood the difference between "file size" and "image size".

There is a maximum size restriction, just as there is a minimum size restriction. I think the allowed scope is 1,000,000 to 10,000,000.

Yes, it can be frustrating, especially when you have to reduce the size of your image and the file size at least 5 times before it will be accepted by MT.

Yes, it applies to everybody as I speak from experience.

No, wallpapers were not an excuse to go up in Levels because there are still shoddy and poor wallpapers being submitted now we're on levels (people will always submit what they think is a good wallpaper when it's a poorly extracted scan on a plain black background) and they are still being deleted for exactly the same reasons.

If you submit scans to share then it doesn't really matter what others are doing with them (whether it's printing them out or using them in wallpapers). The point in sharing scans is that others can use them creatively.

But be sure of one thing, all of the changes have been done with great thought. Because you don't like the change does not mean that it has been "done without mind".

If the maximum image size restriction is 10.000.000 px and it will not change i have not other solution than resize the image. Less kb and better for all :D.

Thanks for the aclarations.
