I need recommendations for haunting OSTs

page 1 of 2 1 2 Next » 26 total items

Basically, OSTs which have a haunting, melodic feel to it. The only one I can think of right now which would serve as example is The Sacred Moon - the opening track of Shingetsutan Tsukihime.

Granted, I haven't heard that many anime OSTs except those that may be found in my anime collection & I don't have full OST collections (albums) either. So, any recommendations? Appreciate it if you could specify the name of the track & the album. It'll help me to hunt the album, so to speak since there's a specialty shop here dealing in imported anime OST collections.

Btw, speaking of The Sacred Moon...I CAN'T GET IT OUT OF MY MIND! HELP!1!1!

*runs at breakneck speed all over MT* http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v190/volrath77/Forum%20pics/tongue.gif

I've sampled Trinity Blood & Rozen Maiden...& I've added Trinity Blood to my shopping list. Any further recommendations, guys & gals? :)

i recomend kenshin ova ost.
and try some final fantasy piano versions.

The Silent Hill OSTs are pretty much the epitome of "haunting" especially the second one. If you're not just looking for anime OSTs I recommend checking them out.

I would go for Le Protrait de Petit Cossette, Vampire Princess Miyu and Hellsing OSTs for animes. These OSTS most of them would provide that "haunting" effect you might be asking. But you might wanna check out some game soundtracks as well, like FF for one, xenosaga/gear and even FMA have some pretty haunting tracks in their OSTs.

Silent Soul

erm...I haven't listened to the OST myself in a while, but the one for the XXXHolic movie from Clamp was kinda haunting. (It's on my external hd at the moment, and I'm kinda lazy.) You can get the whole OST from Nipponsei if you want to sample it before buying.

I'll try to get back to you with more info on it if I remember. =) <--has leaky memory

I'd recommend Bubblegum Crisis 2040 OST. It has a very haunting and liquid feel to some of the music.

"Resident Evil: Apocalypse" or "Underworld: Evolution", you might find what your looking for in these OST's.

If you've seen my anime CD collection you'll know I have a very large one and have a huge source to draw from. Some music from the Tenchi Muyo OVA series is very good for this too, mainly stuff from the 2nd CD. After all Ryoko is supposed to be a demon isn't she.

Yup. I've noted in the OP that I'll need the name of the track (which would of course be the one I'm supposed to sample) and the name of the collection. Still, yours is a valid reminder nonetheless for this thread or any OST thread for that matter. Thanks. :)

Well, actually while looking for Trinity Blood OST album I mentioned above (there's a lot of them actually), I found a Parasite Eve 2 OST CD as well. Gentle Rays (ending track of PE2) is really good - my favourite along with Sacred Moon.

That said, thanks for the recommendations, guys & gals. Keep 'em coming. :)

If I may add, I'd recommend music from both soundtracks of the anime "Witch Hunter Robin"; Original Sound Scores Volumes 1 and 2. Most of the songs were composed by Taku Iwasaki, and certainly most have that "haunting" feel. Specifically, I'd recommend the songs "Plot", "Sneak", "Kyrie", "Flashback", "Shadow", "Silence" (from the first CD), and "Grave" (from the 2nd album).

Quincy Archer Hates You

Tsubasa, .hack//SIGN, and Ghost in the Shell OSTs could definitely be described as "haunting".

Trinity Blood, Hellsing, Witch Hunter Robin, and Escaflowne all have really haunting music.
And maybe a few Final Fantasy BGM's as well, like One Winged Angel (FF7), Fithos Lusec Wecos Vinosec (FF8), Inori no Uta (FF10)...

Well if you're looking for "haunting" music, I have a few( yeah right" suggestions ^_^') although some of it aren't anime OSTs, they're definitely in the category that you mentioned. I'll give you names of specific songs, and/or albums/compilations/compositions:

1) " Haunted "--Blair Witch 2 soundtrack( pun intended ^_^')
2) Final Fantasy: Advent Children soundtrack( some are not " haunting " music, but there are other compositions in there that'll fit with what you're looking for... ;)) i.e., The Promised Land :D
3) FF8 soundtrack collections, especially " Time Compression ", " The Extreme ", and " Silence and Motion "
4) Witch Hunter Robin OST, " Shell ",and " Half-pain "( my favourite )
5) Ergo Proxy ( pretty much all the contents are haunting )
6) Turn A-Gundam, i.e., Yoko Kanno's composition called " Moon "
7) Noir ( pretty much all of the OST )especially, " Secret Game ", " Le Grand Retour ", " Canta Per Me ", and " Salva Nos "
8) Albums of Within Temptation like " Mother Earth " and Silent Force "
9) FF9, " The Place I long to Return To ", and " Song of Memories "
10) Silent Hill OST ( chills down my spine...)
11) Blood the Last Vampire OST
Individual songs/compositions:

1) Sadness and Sorrow( Naruto )-based on the short piece called Hokage's Funeral
2) " Space Lion "--Yoko Kanno's composition for Cowboy Bebop
3) " Ensei ", " Memories of Fanelia " and " Sora's Folken "
4) " Lilium Est ", " Broken Wings " and " Anna Ni Issho Datta No Ni--Athrun's Feelings "
4) Max Payne Theme from the Official Max Payne Soundtrack
5) " Sora ", " Frozen Flower " and " Brothers "

Those are only some of what I listen to that can be considered " haunting ", hope this selection helps! :D

I don't know any OST's, but I can recommend the music of Silent Hill 4. THe one song, "the room," is quite creepy.

Hope is an optimist

I'd personally recomend Noir, Jigoku Shoujo, Ergo Proxy, Hellsing, Ghost in the Shell (the first movie), and some NGE OST's (I have at least 4 mixed up albums - have no idea which is which).

I personally like more exciting OST's, so my list is a bit short -_-

Shadow of the Colossus has an awesome haunting and melodic soundtrack. The official OST is called Roar of the Earth.

Eh, I don't really listen to anime OSTs... so that's all I have that hasn't already been mentioned that fits in your category, lol.
