Last week, I went to an arcade. It was a long time ago since I went to one and I discovered interesting games, like Star Wars Trilogy. It was cool...but it is really expensive to play, almost a dollar....OX

And then, I realized that with the arrival of so many videogames consoles, I was wondering if the era of arcades are reaching an end? I saw lots of arcade places come and go, but lately, there are not many...Do you prefer to spend a quarter in an arcade machine or just play at home...psx, xbox, etc!

Opinions are welcome!.... :)

When I have the chance I always visit the arcades. I do not think that they are completely gone, not everybody can buy a console.

Recently our arcade in our college got House of the Dead 4. Everytime someone played, a big crowd loomed over to watch.

Cancel

no, i don't play at arcades. I save every penny to buy my console games for PS2, and GBA...

I was really disappointed when all the local malls started dropping their arcades, or if they kept them, they only had cheesy games....
I definitally think it's the overall affordability of consoles and computer games that caused the decline of the arcade.... not that it's actually cheap or anything (most games are waaaaaay too pricey) but they've become more common place nowadays

Arcades are definitely a dying breed. I just went back to my hometown recently and trying going to the arcades I use to go to to play DDR and lo and behold not a single one of them was still there. I think the problem is creative games don't tend to make it to the US so the attraction of the arcade died. Remember arcades was where you could play games you couldn't own and to challenge people at ones you did, but thats uneccesary with things like XBOX live now.

If this post were vector art, you'd actually care it existed.

I believe that the reason that arcades seem to be disappearing (or at least, obviously, their numbers are diminishing) is because in the past, arcades offered gaming technology which was not available at home, whereas now it has become much harder to provide such an experiece to gamers accustomed to high-tech experiences (next-gen consoles, that means you). Due to the increasing versatility of new consoles and PCs, light gun games and interactive games like DanceDance Revolution can now be played on home consoles, whereas such experiences were once reserved for arcades. Since arcades are no longer necessary for equivalent gaming experiences to be had, they are fading away. I hope that arcades dont completely disappear, though because they provide a unique, emmersive atmosphere for gaming which is seldom available at home.

This poll should really of hadan option "Would love to, but don't have a nearby arcade", because I don't really have any nearby arcades with any games worth playing. While on christmas holidays I found and arcade and probably wouldn't have left if I wasn't dragged out... didn't even get a chance to play Street Fighter II or Soul Calibur II while I was there.

Arcades have decent scenes in big cities and college towns. L.A., Sacramento, Houston, Austin, N.Y., and a couple other cities. Most malls have a large DDR scene, but let's face it; those places aren't real arcades.

arcade will always be around. since there is games like kof, street fighter, guilty gear other great games are produced. fighting games are not much fun played in consoles. the satisfaction is absolutely different.

Fighting games are always played best at the coin-ops so arcade will never die! And just imagine how many weird games Koreans make to put in the Japanese arcades just to get back at 'em.

I stopped going to arcades a long time ago. I have a PC and a Ps2 within 5 feet of me not even counting my bro's Xbox. I used to love arcades but it doesnt make sense to spend money when I have perfectly good electronics here
