LOL...picky picky.
Lest u know, even mods make typos.
they are only human. Speaking of which, what are the prospects of a member (say elite member) becoming a mod, if their attitude sucks? I say this cause I have had encounters with some who are rather rude.

I think in order to be a mod you'd have to get along with the general population of a site...no one wants a jerk for a moderator...

If you really want to be a moderator, I am pretty sure that you will need patience. Some of the things moderators say are nasty when they ban or warn people. Then again, if you are constantly reading immature posts directed at you then I am sure that you're bound to get mad somewhere along the line. Needless to say, the moderator job is tough. I know I just joined this place for somewhere to enjoy in my off time; I never really had an intention of anything more. My advice is to think about becoming a moderator carefully. Anyway, good luck for those who are moderators and for those who wish to become one.

I have changed IPs and couldn't get my password so I had to make a new one. I have had that to, have seen were a Mod here went out of her way to make things up on this on guy. Just so she could have the last word I guess. She told him > of course you may reply but I will not discuss this matter anymore- I have explained all of your concerns, and any more accusations will be considered harrassment, and I will take the proper procedures/protocol if you continue to do so . She made smart -ss remakes too. Now what was his name again, Oh yes I remember now it was RW she was talking too. Who Mods the Mods if you know I mean. Who would you report it to anyway, after all >The responsibility of arbitrating and enforcing the Policy falls within the exclusive purview of the community moderators.

She asked him so many questions, which she will not let him answer. She tells him that she'll use proper procedures/protocol. She didn't use that when she was talking to him.

Four things are required to be a Mod > to hear courteously, to consider soberly, to decide impartially, and to answer wisely.. < These are words of wisdom that have make many a great Mod. The surest way to gain respect is to earn it by conduct. She didn't do any of those 4 things.

If you want to see what I am talking about go check RWs user page , the Mods name is there check her user page to see what he said to her .

As for me the test here should have some about manners, I wouldn't want to be a Mod here for all the tea in the world, the rules here tell you can do this or that then a Mod can come along and tell different, wishy washy rules .

I have said just a piece of what is on my mind on this topic. More to come later I have to get back to work...

well...no one is perfect, surely that, I don't know this RW person, it would be good that you link us, at least we can see, or better still, post in the complaint thread.
I do know that there are some whom I view to be unworthy of that position, which I will not mention names, but based on what they usually post, and the bias towards them simply because of their decent contributions, which conflicts with the tes being put forward earlier. Although I agree with the recent promotion it brings forth new staff and hence more effectively running the place, I believe we are not looking at the whole package, but again, I am sure there is not such bias as stating the rules in their own words. After all, until further proven, one is innocent.

I have just seen once a mod being quite mad and harsh (well it isn't at all like I try to see what the moerators or Elite members do) but I think it was quite understandable because the offender has put a link to a porno site. But I think the mods here are really good, well at least the ones I've noticed...

I don't really know why you wish good luck to the one that wish to become moderators... since they are first selected for what they already do, and it's isn't a "job" you apply for.

I think that if someone has a problem with a moderator, he/she can contact another moderator.

I was suprised to know that members have to pass an examination and an interview... when I first read this, I've thought it was a joke... that's really impressive.

.:Enigma Mod:.

Alright, members are becoming too serious about the mod exams for this thread to go on as is.

To all members,

Everything you have read about the Moderator Exams is a joke that shinsengumi and I came up with. None of that is true. The two of us talked on MSN about the posts and I told the other moderators (including the newly promoted), to play along for a few days.

I was the one who came up with the original idea of this joke. Therefore I will take full responsibility for it. If you take offense to this little lie, then I sincerely appologize. We intended for our posts to be a harmless little lie, and we truly were surprised how seriously everyone took us.

Now that I have blown the little game, I will expound on what exactly goes into making a moderator. I think I ought to do as much after how seriously members thought about the exams. Everything from this point on in my post is true.

If you read Tama-Neko's article on Elite Members, you will note how Elite Members are chosen. A similar process exists for seleting prospective moderators.

The current moderators generally initiate a discussion for promoting more moderators. Generally, current mods will feel that the workload has become such that more moderators are needed to smoothly run a particular section. In such cases, the current moderator will start a discussion with the other moderators and sheqel about the need for more moderators, and if the need is agreed upon and cannot be reasonably fulfilled by the other moderators, we will make a few proposals about possible mod candidates.

We will debate amongst the proposals who is best qualified for the job opening at hand. For wallpaper mods, someone who has a keen eye for quality is preferable. For forum mods, one who can initiate, maintain, and foster discussion is a plus.

How do we come up with candidates? One big indicator is reports. As we perform our duties daily, we will take note if a member has consistently filed excellent reports that are very helpful to moderators. We consider how helpful a member has been to others. This includes but is not limited to directing members with questions to the appropriate threads, moderators, or answering the question him/herself, making constructive comments in the galleries to help members improve, and frequenting the Sandbox to help aspiring artists.

However, as Tama noted in her article, doing any one, or all of the above, even if very consistently, will not mean you will be promoted.

From the list of candidates that mods propose, we each voice our opinion regarding each candidate. We try to give our best, honest assessment of the qualities of that member that is deserving or undeserving of a promotion. What is more, we seriously examine whether a candidate has the ability to shoulder the responsibilities of a moderator. Once we have discussed all the candidates, we will vote. The general unspoken rule is that a near unanimity is needed to pass. This is because all the mods must work together, and we want to ensure that there is no internal conflict amongst the staff. You may find that rather unreasonable, but we do this for a very real, logistical purpose. Of course, if a current mod opposes a candidate because of a trite personal grudge, then the vote will likely be disregarded. We do our best to remain as objective in our decision as we humanly can be.

After voting, the final candidate/candidates is discussed with sheqel. Sheqel will review the entire process and give his consent or veto. From my experience, he has generally deferred decision to us moderators, so that the final vote is usually approved. But he does have overriding veto power, and can reject a candidate by his vote alone.

When a candidate passes all of that, sheqel will personally send an invitation to that member. Should that member accept, sheqel will then promote that member to moderator.

Please note that members cannot apply to become a moderator or an Elite member. The information on the About Minitokyo page was outdated and has been removed as of today. All Elite members and moderators are proposed and voted on by current staff without any application process involved.

... so my first impression was correct.

But you know I think the fact that some of us really believe the examination thing (me included) can show that we think the "quality" is set highly. ^_^ <- isn't that a good excuse to defend my gullible person ?

... but I don't know what you can call excellent reports... "excellent" seems a too strong word... IMO, the reports should be appropriated or not, well explanied or not... (oh well, now I remember the pw3nd report...)

Fixed.

Hehe, I thought that I left clues that I was joking in my post. After all, I did say, at the end of my post, "I'm pretty sure that's how it goes. Either that, or something like what Tama wrote in her article about Elite Members." In fact, EP did the same at the end of his.

Hehe, nothing wrong with a bit of light-hearted fun ;)

half of that is truth, the other half is....you know, not so true.
Though I must agree to a certain extend.
Oh wait....I also do that a bit, so why am I not considered? LOL

I would imagine one of the ideals of modship should include basic management skills, so far, beside people with really good english, people who post a bloody lot and helping people a lot while having wallpapering skills as well as fine taste in art is considered, I don't see much of a managerial side to the team at work.
(excluding Shinsengumi, who potrayed a sufficient managerial image for a community of 200k members)

The test is of your integrity, your honor, your willingness to process reports until your eyeballs turn purple. We are the few, the proud, the orange!

But, I got this needle in the mail that says "ocular fluid sample", what do I do with it? lol

Seriously, mods do rely heavily on good reports. "Good" report basically means that a good description of what's wrong with a submission/forum post is in the report body, and if something's a dpue or a rip, a URL is provided to the original.

Wizard of Darkness -under a rock

lol I rarely come into the forum and I see this on the front page... so this is kinda amusing.

Methinks being a mod takes a lot of time, dedication, patience and well... overall hardwork. You have to handle all the reports (hahaha I can imagine the pile...), deal with the naughty people (I suppose most of these people are either reported... or if you are randomly browsing you might go D: and then go bust them ;)), deal with naughty people's posts (not everyone's that understanding... I see posts all the time like: "Y U DELETE MY WALL? GOOD WALL !" so err yeah... kinda hard to handle those IMO ;)).

Other things I would put on my list (which are well, jokingly put): keeping up a good image or impression with the peeps, your colleagues, staying enthusiastic even when things get really depressing since you pour your third coffee of the night...

I dunno XP Overall the site is huge, and to help prune it every now and then when there is overgrowth does require some some skill and (insert some other nice trait here).

If you have all the time in the world, sure thing :D POWER! Hahaha jk jk though I must admit orange/ yellow/ italics do look pretty funky. Heheheh XP

@Bluearth: no there shouldn't be an age limit.
But you gotta be mature enough... and show that you are capable of at least pretending to be mature at least O_O
