I read this book last year so my memory is a little rusty but I do not belive Marriage is AS important as it used to be because neumerous people get divorces this day in age and it is not a symbol of how well your family is. Religon has changed as well most people in the United states used to visit church regualry but now the population has changed so for those two topics i belive have not as much relavance. Good Luck on your report!

You could also do background research on J.D. Salinger himself and see if there's any interesting views he had to back up your observations in his writing. On the topic of insensitivity you could look at the fact about the "F--- you"'s that were written all over the place, like in his sister's school and i think the museum. You could also look really focus on the part about all the children playing around in the field and holden being the catcher and maybe his plan to run away with a girl to a state up north were they would live on the land and stuff. i haven't read it in awhile, but i hope it helped.
