I do hate those OVAs :angry: the first four ones aint that bad, but the other two... god, they suck, the ten tankoubons of the revenge arc are traslated to 30 or 40 minutes of movie! they dont show Kujiranami, Banjin, Otowa and Gein, they dont show Kaorus "first" death, they dont show the destruction of the Akabeko and Maekawa dojo!... It just pisses me off!

Would that be the Reflection's OVA's you are talking about? Your description had me wondering it has been awhile since I have seen them, however I did know that I enjoyed all 6 OVA's very much. More so than I enjoyed the anime itself.

The first four are truly excellent OVAs. Gives you a different look at how Kenshin used to be when you've watched the series. I didn't really care for the last two OVAs and the movie.

the first four were wonderful, they explained so much of Kenshin's backstory. The movie wasn't too bad, though maybe time has helped me forget the more wince-inducing parts of it. I will refrain from bitching about the last two OVAs. I don't have the words to express my utter disgust of them anyway. :(

The OVAs were OUTSTANDING! They truly showed how Kenshin was before the series, as the Hitokiri Battousai. If you were expecting a sumewhat funnier OVA, then unfortunately, you wont be happy with this one. The OVAs were really strong and prominent in telling Kenshin's past and how he gets the scar on his face.
If you are talking about the Seishohen/Reflection, then I kinda agree with you about some of what you said. They didn't follow the "Jinchuu" Saga like in the manga, but hey, whut anime followed really closely to the manga? That arc should have been animated in the series because of its relevance to Kenshin's past. Overall, this OVA/movie was pretty well done. Another serious part to Kenshin and very sad to note as well.

Haohmaru, do you really miss Gein and others?! Come on! They suck! Jinchuu arc sucks very badly, just good things are Kenshin's past, Tomoe and the final battle. OVAs just put the most important facts, missing superfluous things and additionally has the life married between Kaoru and Kenshin, has the last mission of the legendary swordsman, his death and his forgiveness. Sorry for typos and things that became nonsense, I am not English speaker.

The OVA where Kenshin dies was silly though...I prefer the 'happily ever after' that was shown in the manga.Rurouni Kenshin was a great anime to watch snd the OVA's just added more flavour and taste although the best ones were those that showed Kenshin's past since we know so little of it.

OMG YES!
....DON'T READ IF YOU DO NOT KNOW THE REVENGE ARC....
The first ovas were ok, I guess. They were faithful to the original and even made me cry but the reflection ovas...god...they are a big and uply spot on the whole RuroKen concept! >_<What happened to the whole vengance Enishi had planned? they just showed the combat and really...there was nothing amasing in that, at least in tghe manga we were "WTF ENISHI BROKE KENSHIN'S TECHNIQUE!" and I believe they didn't even bother in tell us about the technique Kenshin used to defeat him.
Also, what about Sano's family? his reason to leave? And Yahiko's moments? I respected that kid so much on this arc and they purge it all. The same goes for the Kamiya Kashin style...before that arc I tough anyone who had played with a piñata could perform those techniques but they proved to be quite good. Damn it! I even came to recognize that Kaoru do knew her stuff! They didn't even showed how much Enishi hated Kenshin and wanted to make him suffer! >____<
Another thing was Enishi's ending...I liked it how he and his father met after the battle but none of that were shown...not even the depression Kanshin had after he though Kaoru was dead...and god that momment when tghe fake dead happened was sweet!
Sure, I did like Kenji's and Yahiko's fight on the ovas...it also was ok that Kenshin died (the scar dissapearing was a nice touch) b/c it shows that in the end he was just human, but wasn't there other way? god I hate the filler arcs that messed things up!
I leave now, I'm mad =_=#

Trust and Betrayal is one the best if not the greatest ova.Reflections sux beyond comprehension though.The thought of Kenshin dying by a fricking disease is the most stupid conclusion ever in anime.This was a fearsome and terrifying samurai who dies by his own fighting ability!Dumbest ending ever yet Trust and Betrayal is possibly the most awesome samurai movie of all-time.

Trust and Betrayal, no doubt, was the better of the OVAs. While, Reflections pretty much ruined my appetite for RuroKen with its draggy storyline (and Kenshin's death), I still found it slighty okay and a bit sad. The real drawback was that they didn't empahasize on Jinchuu that much
Watsuki's happy ending was much better (he did mention Shonen stories are meant to have happy endings) and I think Reflection's would've been much, much better if it was about Kenji. Coz Watsuki did give a short plot on how he expects Kenji to be like when he grows up
Sigh... Guess it's all too late now. The only reason why I still love Rk is maybe coz I'm still making AMV's of it. Mainly from the OVAs ^^'

oy vey I to hate the OVAs. I read Jinchuu Arc long before I've seen Reflections and finished reading the rest fo the manga. GRRR!
They don't go by Watsuki-sama's original storyline! They even have Kenshin die and Kenji hate his father in the OVA. >.<x
It isn't true to the original manga. Hell the anime is closer to the manga than the OVA will ever hope to be. After all the anime is based off of the manga. Hence why the artwork/animations are soo similiar. >.<x grrrr! MOU! I mean it's true that the OVA is somewhat realistic and the animation may be better but the storyline! Hell no! It's like how Hollywood messed up book storylines and make them into movies. BAH! >.<x erm sorry... I got carried away >.>x- Oct 12, 2006

Okay, I just have to say this....I LOVE KENSHIN!
~~~~~~~*cough*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The first OVAs are Masterpieces, wonderful art, wonder story telling of how that era was and how hard it was to live under no rules or protection other than thugs that are hired. I shows the painful memory of how kenshin became the hitori battousai and his reason for leaving it all behind. I think that Rurouni Kenshin the anime would not have been so successful if it hadn't been for the first OVAs.
The last ones were done in a rush because fans were demanding it, since the ending to the anime was so....dumb, that's the world I'll use. Fans wanted something that will give them closure, so producers did what they could to satisfy that. I mean it's hard having hardcore fans outside of your office building yelling and screaming they want more or else! lol If they had done the revenge arc then it would've been expanding Rurouni Kenshin the anime to at least 150+ episodes. Producers thought that it had a good run and plus the anime itself was losing ratings.
~~anyways~~ you can only hate what you don't understand. I KNOW that this anime was a masterpiece in itself, especially the manga.
I'm not a Kenshin fan and I liked the 4 OVAs more than the little I've seen of the series. The last OVAs were medicore and so was the movie.
