Just the names of the companies that sells the cards, thats all. I have the Gigabyte nVidia GeForce 6800GS.......even though nVidia makes the cards, Gigabyte put their name on it. Like when you go to a car dealership like "Mitchell Nissan" and buy a 350z, they will take a sticker with their name on it ....like adveritsing. Although Mitchell Nissan didn't build the 350z (Nissan did) they just added the business to it.
Hope that helps...... I think! ^_^'

Nvidia makes the chip, but the other companies make the board and attach the supporting chips to that boards. Some board manufactures may overclock the chips pass the spec or add better cooling systems, etc. The differences between different board makers isn't that large, but there is a slight difference.

I would suggest buying a card made by Nvidia, as I have bought cards with their chipsets on the before and ATI but have not had really good luck with what you might call aftermarket cards. I had 2 GeForce 6800 cards for PCIE one made by Nvidia another made by someone else...can't remember who, but it seemed almost like the aftermarket one would bottleneck while the official Nvidia card would run top speed. Also what kinda slot you putting it into, AGP, PCIE or what I have the good old PCI hehe.

It all goes down to how well the warranty is, for XFX you get double life warranty.
This is how it works.Let's say you get a XFX card and registered it, then you get 1 year warranty. Now
you gave this card to your friend, and if your friends registers it also, then s/he gets 1 year warranty on the card too.eVGA imho has one of the best warranty I've ever seen (it's lifetime).
It says as long as you do not physical damage the card, then your warranty will not get void, even if you changed the cooling fan or overclock. For others if you do that, then your warranty will get void.
Quote by eVGAFor our retail Graphics Card and Mainboard products purchased on or after June 22, 2005, EVGA will provide a lifetime warranty to the original purchaser of each retail product that the product will not suffer, in material or workmanship, from any defect that adversely affects the performance of the product. This lifetime warranty is valid for the life of the retail product, so long as the original purchaser owns the product. For terms and conditions please visit: http://www.evga.com/support/lifetime/

6600gt would be dead when you played Tomb Rider Legend with Next Generation Content while 6800gs still can make it.
6600gt is kinda old for next generation game like this one:
http://www.bit-tech.net/gaming/2006/04/20/crysis_new_screenshots/1.htmli'll recommend 7600gs if you can, but stay for 6600gt for a budget card, with that link for an exception.

All current cards will not be able to run that game. :P :D
Because Crysis is the first to be bult on the DirectX 10 API,
and right now there are no graphic cards that support DirectX 10. :)Stop staring at my sig! :P

No, you can not update it by software. If you can
then everyone won't have to waste their money just to get a new card in order to support
the latest directX architecture.Stop staring at my sig! :P

man....did you remember Radeon 9700? that card released 6 month before the release of DirectX 8.1 (pixel shader model 2.0). and..yeah, sure..they said the same thing that year: Radeon 9700 is a big lie to pixel shader 2.0 and then, hokus-pokus!
and together with the ATI's co-operationship with Microsoft, I was kinda sure that they had something in their sleeve to make sure that Radoen X1000 series work just fine in the upcoming DirectX 10.
