Argh! It's so vexing. I suppose I have several questions but they all revolve around the same problem. Mion appears to have a shoulder holster with a pistol in it at all times. Now this wouldn't necessarily bother me except there's a few problems. The main being it seems to have no purpose. It's like a belt or something. She never touches it, never uses it, never takes it out, it's just there. And why does she have a gun? She's just a little girl going to school and stuff. Why doesn't anyone mention it? "Hey mion! You seem to have a large caliber pistol! It really completes the outfit!". Nothing. And she isn't exactly nice. I mean, it seems like she should have shot everyone in town by now. Anyway, this is really bugging me so if anyone has an answer...

Your post prompted me to watch this anime. Now I am afraid of killer lolis. Rena is CREEPY, Mion is SCARY, and ... "entrails"?! Yum. I suppose there's backstory about the gun, or maybe it'll be used later... or maybe it's just to contribute to the general creepy atmosphere, like the off-kilter camera angles, weird music, and Rena's huge machete. Why does no one comment on that? Although it's true she doesn't carry it everywhere... only when she's threatening Maehara's life...

Well Rena doesn't carry it at all times and it has a purpose. She goes dumpster diving and stuff. She actually moves it around and people acknowledge the fact that it exists. But everyone including Mion herself ignore the gun she carries at all times but never uses. That's essentially what bugs me.
I think it's a good show though. Usually I don't usually like horror type movies/shows because the characters do stupid crap and make me root for their horrible, bloody, and well deserved demise. I think if you're looking forward to the retarded characters dying off it sort of defeats the purpose of it.
Oh and I'm also not sure why the story switches to an alternate dimension or something after episode 4. It's like the story completely started over but went in a different direction or something. Very strange. Episode 8 was just released but I haven't watched it yet. I'm curious to know if the story ends every 4 episodes and restarts.

i absolutly adore this show its really different, as for the gun its becauses he is going to be the successor of the yakuza clan, it was mentioned in one of the first 5 episodes i think or maybe the arc that dealt with mion.
i dont see this show as creepy its more cute loli's gone mad lol. its one of my favorites from the new season and its the best by far to discuss within groups because of how it has different arcs and how everythings happening.

lol this is NOT stupid question... it is actually an essential one to figuring out the "twins" mystery in Watanagashi-hen. Like ask yourself.. how come sometimes teh gun is holstered but at other times it isnt?
And since she IS the heir to the Sonozaki family it makes sense that she needs something to defend herself, even if we dont use it to solve the mystery.

Yea actually I thought Shion cud be the heir as well, but that isnt possible coz she doesnt have the kanji character "demon" in her name. So we have to rule out that possibility.
"Mi" in "Mion" contains the kanji for "demon".
All the Heirs of the Sonozaki family have the kanji character for "demon" in their names.
Wad freaks me out is how Rena keeps calling Mion "Mi-chan" which can mean little demon, and how Rika keeps going "Mii!" Like wtf?

yea but if you remember in the OP mion is the one with the "demonic" tatoo on her back, and we know its mion because how she always has her hair. and from the second arc she kinda admits she has a demon in her and that K1 is the one that caused it to awaken in her.
rika is cute shes allowed to go mii mii :D

i have a "cast" image that has bout 3 chars i havent seen on the show yet and another girl that looks like mion and shion, it is possible that they are triplets but so far there isnt evidence of it yet.

Well, episode 12 spices things up with the girls swearing they saw him at Watanagashi, when he was doing... other things. So, is K1 hallucinating? Are the girls lying? Is Rena going to kill K1 for not bringing a receipt? But yeah, this arc is a bit less tense than the others (especially Onikakushi. The hand - the door - *shiver*) And it seems they're going to do Himatsubushi in two episodes! Who else thinks that this is a bit rushed?

Mi-chan is just being friendly, Rena doesn't see it as 'little demon', just as Mion's nickname.
About Rika's 'Mii'... well, it's just an untranslatable saying, like a giggle or accent.
Shion= Shi means Death (that and it also means the #4) so it's pretty close to Mion.

Hmm... I just found this one topic about Higurashi ? Wew... so is this mean this anime is not knowing for wide ? Too bad.
My fave Arc is which tell about Shion - Mion relationship (I forget which Question Arc and Answer Arc). Can't wait for Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni Kai though...
