Ok, I mentioned this sometime ago, and no one gave me a good answer, even Sheqel through PM.

Ok, some of us may have this problem. I cannot access sites like these/ pages like these:

http://lord_satorious.minitokyo.net/

# Illegal double-escape in the URL-Path
# Illegal character in hostname; underscores are not allowed

it gives me this.
Now, I dunno how, but many people could, is there a way for my browser to change this setting so I can visit userpages with underscores and Hyphens on them?

Another examples is this: http://-0burize0-.animepaper.net/

If there is a hyphen or underscore in front, or in the middle of the name, I am unable to access the page.

Please help.

:x

It works for me fine. It might have to do if you have Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox or others like those. That's all I can think of...

And this one work too...

The Lord Satorious was werid because it looked like I wasn't log in, but I was. And the one from animepaper.net was normal. You probably need Firefox to get those sites.

Yep it works here too. With both FireFox and IE.

Try setting your browser's setting back to default and try again.
If that does not work, then do you have another computer at home so that you can try it out?

If you don't have you can create a virtual PC right on your existing computer and see if
it's the Windows that is causing the problem.

Fact 1: I am using firefox, the most updated version.
Fact 2: I am on default
Fact 3: IE does the same thing for me, on default.
Fact 4: I downed my firewall and everything and it still does the same thing.
Fact 5: What is a virtual PC?

Fact 5: What is a virtual PC?

A virtual PC is a program that lets you run one or many OSes right on top of your existing one.
It's like have 3 or 4 computers even though physically you only have one.

Let's say you want to tryout linux, but do not want to wipe out your entire HD because
it has important datas in it. This is where the virtual PC comes in, with the virtual PC
you can install Linux and run it while your main OS is still intact.

Since you can't seem to view certain sites correctly (web addresses with hyphens and underscores)
You can also run a virtual PC to test out and see if there is something wrong with your existing OS
before you actually redo the whole system.

If you want to create a virtual PC, then you must first have
a Windows OS CD. Do you have a Windowsw OS CD?

Not those factory restore or image disc, a actual Windows CD.

You have Toshiba notebook right?

i heard that it might be the problem with your ISP, as DNS server will deem some character as illegal and void the request of surfing that specific webby..

anyway, it might be a good idea of using an alternative browser or a virtual pc(which i think doing a virtual is too much of a waste of time..) than to trust what i have mentioned above..

I have no idea if this will work, but try this address and tell me if it works:

A green packet indicates that you have Windows XP Home, while
Media Center and Professional you get a blue Packet.
(I may be wrong on that though ^_^' )

Anyway it would be great if you can provide a snapshot of that disc so
that we can tell you if that's it or not.

But most of the time Toshiba won't provide a stand alone Windows OS disc.
It's mostly a restore CD or restore DVD.

BTW: alexjohn... your webaddress does not work.

Ok, nevermind that, I looked over the disc myself, and indeed, it is nothing but a restore disc... looks like I have to wait till I go back.
Anyway, I assume it has nothing to do with that, it is something with my browser and I am checking it through once more.

As for Alex: that one guided me to http://www.m-w.com/

Well, if you Google your bottom error message, you'll see this isn't a unique issue at all.

If you use Squid (web proxy), try http://www.squid-cache.org/Doc/FAQ/FAQ-11.html#ss11.9
(If it won't let you view it, I'll give you a copy-paste relay ;)

In any case, since it seems to be a network/proxy type issue, I doubt re-installing Windows would make any difference.

about the same time as I got this comp, and the whole internet.
Actually, it seems ok with one of them now, I can actually visit the animepaper one, however the Lord Satorious one is still denying me, anyhow, I will see what I can do with Somebody's link. Thanks

Running A Critiquing Service

Technically, characters like underscores arn't valid in domain names. You're not supposted to use them, but some domain resolver programs will still accept them.

So the case here is that your DNS server doesn't accept the domain, and will not return Minitokyo's IP addres, which is the correct behavior. But the DNS servers used by most people will accept this, even though they shouldn't. It's got nothing to do with your browser, OS or any other software you run on your computer, only the DNS server you use.

What the solution should be, is that Sequel should make the domains for user names such as "lord_satorious" something like "lordsatorious.minitokyo.net" or "lord.satorious.minitokyo.net", and make "lord_satorious.minitokyo.net" redirect to this alternative domain.
