Many parents will NEVER understand anime in a lifetime, they think they're childish cartoons (so wrong!). But at least my dad understands unlike my mom. He's a huge collector of comics, book and some manga namely Ranma 1/2, Maison Ikkoku, Monster, etc. My mom on the other hand doesnt read comics, ever. She thinks i should be reading novels instead b'coz i can actually learn something (wrong again!). Well actually, my imaginations and language skill was improved by reading mangas. I'm also able to relax when stressed. I think reading manga is no different than reading any other book! So i say manga is a very good reading material. Parents must understand that anime or manga arent bad at all. They must know it is what we grew up with and is a part of us and who we are.

My parents don't see why I take the risk of downloading viruses to my desktop for the sake of entertainment. They always go about asking me why I like wasting my time on stuff like cartoons instead of my studies, but that's total bogus. Really, what's the difference between me watching anime and them watching their drama series' on the televion screen? It's generally the same thing. They can't seem to get over the fact that they're massive hypocrits...

Yeah me and my parents fight all the time. THey say it is cartoon i say it is anime. THey thing that manga is crappy comic books that us kids dont need to read. I yell telling them that i actually need the books and dvds to stay sane and they believe me. I love it!

well i see that our parents points might be that we must focus more on our studies first, but i must admit it that my parents more relax or at last i say we're not arguing or fight too much these past days just because i already finished my duty as a student h ^^ so they could not complain about me, spending almost all my time to read, watch or collecting anime and movie but still..............
i don't like people who thought that anime/manga is for children.... what about such as Conan? Detective Conan, i suppose that anime is not for children since that anime shows so many kind of murder.... right?
and that's why i still could not understand why most people think that anime/manga for kids? is it only because the kudo shinichi, the main hero (which becoming a real kid ^^) is become conan that only a 4th grade kid?

No I don't get into a fight with my parents because of it, infact I hardly get into a fight with them, only a little argue. I also get teased by my parents often for looking at anime, haha, they always say that I look at baby stuff.

My parents don't mind my likeness of anime, as long as I do well in school and all that. Heck, they're sometimes willing to buy me anime stuff. We just argue about the costs of the merchandise.

Parent: "Sure it isn't."
Me: "Seriously! I'll give you say *thinks of random innapropriate title* and you watch it and tell me if you'd want your 10 year old daughter watching it."
Parent: "*rolls eyes* Can you at least do the dishes first?"
Me: "*shrugs* okay..."For me and my parents it doesn't really get past that point ... it's more of a conversation really...

My mother knows I watch anime, and really doesn't care what I watch. My father, and the rest of my family for that matter, doesn't know I watch anime. And if they ever find, what are they do to stop me? What can they do to stop me?

I have i usually watch my anime on the computer and my dads always like you need to get off that damn computer and stop wasting your life you always stay up late and sleep in the next day well i always respond well nobody tries to wake me up so why should you be mad and plus i watch anime at night so why should you care then he just gets mad and walks off

I wouldn't call it fighting b/c I CAN'T fight or argue against neither, my mom (don't want to hurt her) nor my dad (he just won't listen). The thing is they don't like my interests...instead of reading manga, books, playing games and watching anime (which I don't do as often as before) they would prefer that I...be more normal?
It doesn't matter...the thing is he told me he doesn't like the way I am and that he doesn't support my interests.
Not only I pay for everything I want concerning my interests, but I don't ask him for anything if I can avoid it ever since he told me that and what's more...I don't think I can forgive abny time soon a man who with all the awful things he has done tells me, his daughter, he doesn't like me.

I've never fought with my parents over Anime, though their oppinions vary... My dad seems to think it's all Pokemon type stuff, well generally he's of the old fashioned belief that cartoons in general are just "kids things". At one time he though South Park was a kids show... (@_#) My mom seems to get that it's of varying things like for adults, kids, comedy, action, romance etc. Around about the time I got into Anime, she actually watched one all the way through with us when a TV channel was showing Legend of the Four Kings. Of course this was years and years ago.

I always quarrel with my mum n siblings over anime. Started out is due to my collection of manga..my mum finds it a waste of money..but its my own earnings anyway. Even putting it as a hobby, sets her finding its stupid. Sometimes why adults jus dun understand that we teenagers are stress too!

fighthing because of this would be (sorry) stupid, though.
My parents do thought its for kids, the same with consoles games, and cartoon. But they never really get mad or something. if they mad, it'll be more likely that I "waste" too much time on it. Replace "anime/manga" with TV (ie, watch too much TV), won't they get angry too? or replace it with DVDs or video games, and if you waste too much money on it, won't they get angry too?- Jul 12, 2006

never had a fight everything do i keep my priorities straight even if they do refer tooo them as "cartoons" they know as long as I dont let the anime's,manga,and etc... dont ruin my life and broke they there cool with but if I cosplayed and I look different to people then theres a discussion, but to answer you question no I dont argue with my parents because they know "cartoons" the few things that make me happy.

The closest I've gotten to fighting with my family about my anime/manga is.. Well, I read Negima/Love Hina most, and they keep calling it porno, which pisses me off. It's not porn or anything of the sort so I scream back at them and usually I just walk away cause they are like "It's porn, there is naked girls, porn. I'm right."
