Has anyone else got the new version of windows media player? The beta (practice) version is out for download. Tell me what you think. Do you like 10 or 11 better? I like the 10 version better. I don't like the new way the library is set up. I think im going to go back to the 10th version. Plus I don't see any new features that will keep me with it. Maybe some posts will change my mind.

I like the 10 better, the new one has no new features and and URGE thing gets on my nerves. 10 and 11, they both look pretty cool. They both have their own look which I think is great.
However I like 10 better mainly because the URGE thing on 11 is very annoying and 11 has even less customization than 10.- Jun 09, 2006

Beta means that this is not a completely stable product, and may still retain bugs (as in more bugs than a final version has) and can crash more easily. Personally I'm still sticking with 10. I haven't downloaded 11 yet, and I think I'll wait untill the final release.
From the screenshots I've seen 11 looks quite nice... I wonder if it's very different than 10 was.
btw: what is this URGE thingy you keep mentioning?- Jun 09, 2006

Dunno what the "Beta" stands for, but it refers to any pre-release software. That is, an unofficial release with possible bugs which the manufacturer hopes the user might identify.
Anyway, I'm currently running 11 beta and I must say that I realy like it. Given that I only use it to some extent (I use different programs for different circumstances). I realy like the default skin as well.

The Media Player 11 beta is an official release, however it is not complete as mentioned above. It is meant in no way to reflect the final release quality though, and are really only released to give everyone an idea of what to expect.

This pack includes almost any codec you'd need, as well as Media Player Classic. Anything that this MPC can't handle you can play in VLC.
I myself use Winamp for music, BSPlayer for anime (screen shots!), WMP11 for random avi's (I drag an entire folder in an whatch it on shuffle) and MPC for backup. Of course then VLC for anything that these players can't handle.

I know little about 11, but it has no more useful features, uses more memory, tries to sell you crap and the only improvment is slightly higher compatibility with various codecs and better video resizing. Overly bloated is the best description.
WMP10 is one of the better media players out there, while Winamp is great for audio (great as in the best IMO), its video is very buggy, espcecially when playing more obscure formats and calling Winamp stable is a long shot, it likes to crash almost as much as Windows does after you add in a plugin or two (which you will if you want to listen to more than just MP3s.
VLC player is more complicated than most people want to deal with an is ugly to boot. Either WMP10 or MPC are some of the best Video playback programs, plus using different programs for audio and video is a good idea as opening videos doesn't screw with your music playlists.

K-Lite is a poor excuse for a codec pack. I have installed the same version on a number of my machines and have had varied results on every single one. At one point it even refused to uninstall Divx when I tried to remove it! Not to mention immediately after installing it several of my machines had Explorer crash whenever it attempted to display thumbnails for any video file. You will have much more consistent results and much more compatibility using a more solid codec pack such as CCCP or DefilerPak. Installing these on my machines resulted in all of the above problems vanishing and all the files that K-Lite couldn't play (including some MKV and OGM files) played without a single problem. Save yourself some trouble and avoid K-Lite.

Hello! Beta means it's not fully functional.
Ok, tat's rather crude of me.
Yeah, that's how Microsoft earns money. Lol.
Thank you, Ms Toya999 for the wonderful Signature. :)- Jun 15, 2006
