Do like being called an otaku?

Hm.. I think it makes no difference. I still love to watch anime and read manga. So, who cares! I don't bother if someone calls me an otaku or whatever. >.>

i don't realy care if someone addresses as an Otaku
beside no one ever call me by that alias before...

but personaly i don't realy like beaing called as an otaku
I'll just ignore them when they do so....

There aren't enough people here where I live that even know the word, let alone the exact meaning and different cultural nuances attached to the word.

I'm an anime fan...I hesitate to call myself a freak, because that word has a bit of a negative connotation (here). If you call someone a freak then its a crass insult.

But I may be offended if a non-anime fan uses it (because then he clearly would use otaku in an attempt to be insulting - then it would mean "nerd without a social life who watches kiddy cartoons like Pokemon, DBZ, Yu-gi-o and the likes"). But if a feollow fan use it I wouldn't mind because then he would refer to himself as well. As long as he knows the "western" and "eastern" connotation that word carries.

Its a bit of a label though. Just because I enjoy anime doesn't mean I like being singled out. You watch American or "western" TV...what label can I give you?

I don't mind it. First, I'm not in Japan. Second, I get called a geek anyway (mainly by friends) so why should it bother me?

Labels are for cans. I'm not a f*cking can.

Me and my peers call each other otaku and we don't mind.
Personally I wouldn't mind if other people started calling me that too. I already know and AM one. Just not hardcore yet lol -.-''

The only reason I WILL mind if it were something that would put anime/manga with (a) negative connotation(s). After they start flaming that then I become tempered.
Other than that I'm pretty cool and collected when it comes down to this and for those who don't know these things I'll express it in a manner thats still calm and collected (don't want to yell out: IT MEANS AN OBSESSION; USUALLY FOR ANIME! WOOO. Otherwise you would wierd them out haha)

Besides what's a label for anyways? It's just to brand you into a category whereas some people will quickly judge you because of one trait and not all of your traits and who you are. I think this is why the Japanese are so shy to express their feelings at time and become overly obsessed of being called an otaku. Other than that, it's part of a normal life cycle to be an 'otaku' in something (remember that otaku doesn't mean anime fan; it also means to obsess over any type of hobby or to be a 'geek' (to know a lot in a specific subject)) and be labelled, oh you know computers? well your a computer geek cause you understand it a lot.

I guess it's just that people fear of being judged by others and find things inevitable and so that's why some of the shy people just keep most of this stuff to themselves. If you know what I'm talking about, read and analyze "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" by T.S. Eliot and see how modern society as of now care so much about their self-imagery.

I rather not. If u wanna call me an anime fan i suppose thats ok but 'OTAKU' doesnt seem right somehow.

i like to collect and read comix, and some anime...and aside from that i have other hobbies as well...besides otaku there's other labels i've been called, like freak or geek... being singled out, and really don't like them...not to mention, most labels have negative meanings, especially down here they do...so, i'd rather have no labels on me.

I'm proud to call myself that! Though some people are creeped out because they would say "what?!" but my friends get creeped out (sometimes) but they like me for who I am, so i can live. I say i don't care what people think, they are not into it, can we blame them? They are into what they are into, so I ignore them of course.

well, i think it doesn't jus mean being obsessed wif anime and manga i think... there r other connotations too, which aren't very gd... therefore, i dun think i'd like it very much....

O.o i did a report for english on otaku people... i forced my class to understand. I don't see why it would be a bad thing unless if you go way too far and create your life to be like an anime show. (i met a girl like that... Elfen Lied is what she based hers off of)

sometimes you could take that as a compliment..other times not so
i guess it depend on the situation when,where& by who you got called an otaku

i could care less, it doesnt matter to me, if anyone wants to call me that then they can it just means that you really like anime but there is nothing wrong with that. everyone has something that they really like whether it is sports, musics, movies or anime. so there is only a problem with it if you view your watching anime as a problem.
