I read somewhere that his rapid aging was intentional, yet another article I read claim that it wasn't so, so what is it exactly?

I think I've heard somewhere that they did age him intentionally at first so that he'd be the same age as Mwu, but they couldn't slow down the process once he did catch up with Mwu. I can't remember where I read that, probably wikapedia, which isn't the most reliable of sources.
Personally, I don't think it's intentional. I think it's a flaw in the cloning process that they've yet to figure out, because Rey has that problem too.

its probably a flaw in the cloning process. Its most likely the same problem that faces cloning in real life too- shortened telmoeres.

Thank you for your help. But since Rau had that problem, wouldn't Rey have too? Afterall, he is a clone of Rau.

Rey has this problem as well. I think Rey's a clone of Al da Flaga, not a clone of Rau.

both of them are Flaga clones, making them one and the same. That's why Rey even says he's Rau at one point.

Yup, they're both original clones of Mwu's father. Apparently Al da Flaga had lots of clones made, and they're "frozen" at the embroyanic stage. When one clone is about to die, an embroyo is "unfrozen". That way, Al da Flaga would really live forever.

Live forever huh? Something tells me that he had quite the ego... >.<

Oh, so that's why Rey is younger than Rau. I had earlier thought that he was clone of Rau because he's much younger than him.

Oh yes, Al da Flaga is quite arrogant. He's rich and thinks money can buy him anything. Cloning is illegal, but he says he can make it legal (probably by bribing). The whole reason he wanted to clone himself was because he feels his real son Mwu is a weakling because he has "that women's" blood in him, tainting Al's superior blood.

I imagine they did it on purpose. They probably had an idea of how he would turn out and wanted to ensure that their weapon had a killswitch on it
Fortunately Kira got to him first 8p- Aug 03, 2006

weapon? The reason Rau is created is because Al wants immortality.

Yea imortallity was the reason why Rau was created...sadly his aging process cannot be stop..thus brought Rau to his insanity to "purify the world"..

It's a "*true*" flaw in teh cloning process. Sure, we havent been able to create a human clone yet, but the thing is, at teh end of our DNA stands we have this bit called telomeres. With each cell division the telomeres get shorter. So . . . to take the already aged (and shortened) DNA and have it to create a clone . . . the young baby clone, no matter how young it is, will still have the father's/mother's already shortened telomeres.
Get it?

I dont think it was a flaw. The scientist who 'created' him sped the aging process up so he would be adult but once he was an adult, they couldn't slow the aging back to normal thus Rau has to take those pills

AiaNP is correct if we were to clone someone in real and succeed. But it does not explain rapid aging it just explains a clone's short life- Oct 18, 2006
