Do you take diploma courses or scholarship because you like the subject or is it because it provides you a better range
of job according to the world demand?

It really does depend on the individual on what they believe and how they view things.
I would definitely do something I enjoy rather than something I don't enjoy because I've tried it before. I enjoyed maths to an extent and got very good rankings from that. I enjoyed Japanese and found myself catch up even after starting 2.5 years after my colleagues, and I hated physics and as a result plummeted and got really bad test results XD!
I got a really good mark to get into just about any course at university but I settled for the lower ground, simply because none of the high "paying" or classed courses interested me. Commerce to me is a bore. You work hard, you get a job before you graduate- you spend the rest of your life working about 5-6 days a week at an office desk, breathing in dustmites and possibly growing stressed with an increased risk of hypertension x_x
... I'd very much rather be an unsuccessful rockstar... as long as it made me happy o.o

Well, could'nt agree more.
Hrmm...An extreme food for thought.
Lol. If i can still purse my dream diploma or degree , i probably would not had to said this...
I see that a diploma or degree is just a stepping stone to ensure a certain future. On a wild and vast scale factor in workforce survivibilty of course.
All in all, it's about balance. A choice between something instantanous or slow and easy. Take heed that each time we make a decison, there are always risks involved. Cause learning and getting a cert. for it takes time and passion for it. We can either pursue something we love doing first or we can do it later and still obtain what we want in the end. Of course, i ain't saying there are all pros and no cons in this.
Example: We may take a course of study we love but given a traditional and aristocratic family background, our parents had planned it all out our path.
It all depends on oneself's choices and the external factors.Currently now, i am doing a dip. i found myself getting more and more interested into. So, yeah, i am pursuing something i didn't realise i like in the first place. Lol. Which is a rather twist of events. Of course, i loved doing it since there's an area whereby i loved doing... =)
Besides....haha, its funny if i said it. ok ok, i'll spill it.

I would just do it for a better future. Plus, this is how it adds up-
More $= more anime, manga and video games!
MORE$ = better tv, possibly a 60" sony grand wega!
MORE MORE$ = improved dvd player, bose surround sound and sound-blocking doors and mirrors so that I can blast whatever I am listening to or watching with out being complained about! More $ rules! (I'm not obsessed with money, but everything I just said is true!- Aug 01, 2006

Well, I say that it's both for me.
I'm taking classes that are going to help me or give me knoweldge about the career I want, and the career that I want is one that I would definatly enjoy. So, I enjoy my classes that are going to help me get along in life. ;)

ahh thats a personal attack!
:) just joking..
My reason is kinda of like both but it weighs heavily on the fact that it provides a better range of job... i do know that being on a job that you like would benefit you in the near future but i also take into acount on the fact that having the job you like may not be great on the paycheck... Just to let you know this is the second time im pursuing a diploma... the first try was blacklisted by my family problems... and thus i decided that i go for a little money collecting before going on a better education..a big THANK YOU to my lovely and humorous friend, the irresistable Devilet X-P

Mm...I would consider both factors. I'm taking my diploma for Biomedical Science at a polytechnic now. At first I really wanted to be a game designer, and was kinda bent on choosing a game design course. My dad didn't exactly object to it, but he had much rather I chose, say, something like engineering or the sciences because the jobs tend to be more stable. Something like that. So I decided not to pick game design.
I chose the course I'm taking now since I also have an interest in doing research and Biology, and because life sciences seem to be a pretty hot option due to the advancements in technology: stem cell research and cloning...Basically, I took it because I liked it, and for a better future XD

For me, I guess it's more for the fulfillment of my own ambitions than for the money...
I'm taking a degree in Physical Therapy, then moving on to Medicine proper (specializing in Cardiology...aka Dr. of the Heart...haha).
Well, I could stop at PT and then go abroad where the demand is high and earn lots of money! But then I choose to continue to Medicine because that's my goal, and I feel I'll be able to better help others that way... ^^
Haha...this turned out to be a long post. Sorry. Anyways, I think it'd be better to choose something you'd want to do with your life, than be forced into something you don't really want that earns a lot...you'd have a better time at work that way. ^^- Aug 19, 2006

I'd say the most powerful reason is to have a better future. However, I'm so obsessed with knowledge that I like taking classes, and thinking about taking classes, for fun.

OK, just one question :
Does choosing that provides you a better range of job according to the world demand ENSURES a better future?

For me it's really both. I'm going to college right now for a degree so I can get a job for my future, but it's for a job I want. I want to be happy with what I do for a living, but I also want to make sure I get paid better, too. Money may not buy happiness, but it sure as heck can make you more comfortable.

I am choosing my courses to ensure my future; at the same time, I am working really hard in those courses to make myself better in those academic studies, and because people tend to like what they are good at, I guess I am also choosing courses I like.

Mix of both. However, most people will preach about how you should do something you really enjoy, and it's mostly true. If you work a job you hate, then you probably won't be very good at it and your pay will reflect your productivity. If you're passionate about your work though, you'll probably do very well in that field and the pay will follow.

What I enjoy, definately. Like if I do something I don't enjoy just because it'll be promising in the future, I'll probably suck at it because I don't want to do it, and therefore not find any success anyway.

Right now, I'm taking courses because I need them to complete my associate's degree, and because I don't want to worry with them when I go to Ohio State after I graduate with my associate's degree.
I need 92 credit hours to graduate from the community college I'm attending now. Most of those hours will come from required courses, whether or not I want to take them. The rest come from electives. In other words, classes I take because I'm interested in them.

Because I liked engineering and because it was better paying than other things that I also like (art, architecture, etc...)
