Hey everyone i was wondering does anyone have a lottery in their location? and does anyone have friends that play it all the time dispite the fact that they hardly win. and even when they do they don't know when to stop. what do you tell them? i mean i think my friends throw out about 200$ a week on this crap. and they hardly win any of that back. and personally the lotto in my state says it goes towards education but i just don't see it do you think the lottery in general anywhere is a watse of time and energy or do really believe it benefits anyone?

I tend to think that its a huge waste of money. My parents spend money on that every week and hardly ever win a thing, yet they still hold onto the dream that someday they will win more than they've ever had before, even though its close to impossible to win a thing with all the people out there trying. Sure there are the rare few that will win alot, but who knows how much they must have bought in order to win that. Personally, I would rather just have back all the money my family has spent on those instead of all those lotto tickets that we've simply tossed away.
I guess some people could think of it as being helpful though, considering it does earn alot of money for the government that they couldnt get any other way...

Even if I have choosen "A waste of time and money", I have played a few times... just for the dream I guess... I think that I have lost that way less than 10 $ (I have probably spend less than 20 $ but since I have won once approx 10 $)... and it's interesting to see how important it seems to be where I live. I suppose being in a place where unemployment is important explains that.
Anyway since we're more likely to have a car incident or to be hit by ligthning than to win... it's just for escaping the reality a few moments, isn't it ? Well I don't care that much as long as the spending isn't important... even though I don't like much gambling. <- someone who has spent days in Las Vegas but gambled there less than 1 $ of her own money.

Well the problem is more with people who are additcted to gambling than anything else.
I view lotteries where the money earned is specifically earmarked and used (note that corruption does run rife in most lotteries) for education and other community advancements as a good thing. Afterall how many ways can you basically donate money to something and possibly get a great deal in return. so the idea is good but the actuality of the big lotteries is probably not so good.Do not interfere in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and good with ketchup.

The lotto? You lose more than you win. Being a Brit living in Philippines I can really see the bad effects of the lotto. I have three examples.
1. My uncle: A 78yr olm man in hospital with a broken blood vessel in his eye! How di that happen? Hes always computing numbers for the lotto which then gave him a headache...he went to hospital..now his left eye can only half open! All because of thinking of numbers to bet!
2. My boyfriends bestfriend. When i see him, He is always computing number. He even dreams about it! Quite sad really, He spends all his money on it thinking he will get rich quick and I keep reminding him that money doesnt grow on trees, You have to work hard for it! Now he owes priviate lotto outlets here alot of money! He even spends about 20 Pounds sterling just on a number! How crazy.
3. I see people everyday here who are struggling economically...What they earn...where does it go...back to the bloody lotto. They even have flyers on the bet ways to make numbers etc. and they really should put their money to more use, such as saving it for rice or buying clothes for thier children. I see them queue for an hours worht with money and many number to bet. But they lose more than they win!
So overall. I think the lotto is not good. People get addicted and it is a waste of money, who wins? its the owners of the lotto more than the people.

It hurts the poor. ...Offers them false hope that if they gamble what they have they'll strike it big. ...Winners aren't suddenly transformed into millionaires. ...People will sink litterally thousands of dollars into lotto, while at the same time avaoiding the doctor. Hope is gained, but... ...at what cost? It's a complex ethical question. Hope for those who have little? Or a false hope that deters those who really had a chance at something real from realizing a real future?

Definitely a huge waste of money for people hoping to become rich playing it. When the lotto was first proposed in my place, one the sales pitch was that the revenue generated will help fund the school. I didn't believe that BS but enought people did unfortunately and the proposition passed.
I would have been very happy had I been proven wrong but our school system here are still in a sorry shape. I have no clue where the money generated is ending up. Lotto is evil PERIOD.

waste waste waste...well my mum won once but that was lame and a trip to somewhere or the other...which she had no time to go to...but was fun...the fact that she won was rather fun and funny...
but again it i a waste of time and a real waste of money...since like Tessalover said, your chances of winning are slim, and i never play losing games...

I think ist a waste of time and money, but if anyone else wants to it, then more fool them.
I'm not a gambler (blame my stingy Scottish ancestry) - I cringe at the idea of parting with money, period. The gamble isn't worth it because I know the chances are stacked against me and that I will more likely loose a lot of money with nothing in return. The chances of winning is minuscule. I don't do it.
If anyone else wants to do it, they can do it to their hearst content. I just feel sorry for the poor man that spends most of his salary buying lottery tickets in the dream of making quick money easily instead of saving it and earning it the good old fashioned way.

People play that because they'd like, anytime, to wake up and know they're rich or millonaire. In statistical terms, that's a sure losing game indeed. Lotto and those with lots of numbers are even more losing. The smallest numbers bring more chances to win :P
In my opinion, playing that too much doesn't bring anything good. Winning a lottery could be more dangerous than being poor, due to the money manage: many millions and you waste it in, maybe, weird things. The best money manage experience is brought by, only you, earning and "making" money.

hmm,...well,,,stress reliever but then again,..when you lose a lot,..it's a pain for real....though it cause small amount, still it can damage your budget,...
