Most people associate September 11 with the World Trade Center tragedy. But before 2001, September 11 was already a day of infamy for Latin America and Chile in particular. On that day in 1973, General Augusto Pinochet led a U.S.-backed coup against the popularly elected government of Salvador Allende, and began his repressive 17-year dictatorship.

I hope most of you know the fact that 9/11 is not only a date to remember for Americans. I find it akward that on the
same day that the US helped Pinochet gain power and keep it through terrorism, the US itself gets it.
So- Do you discuss it when abording 9/11 events? Somehow do you think the date was well chosen for hitting the USA? What date is more "to remember" or more important in terms of American (THE CONTINENT, damnit) history?
