IT profoundly left me a sense of what the world really is, and what the people around us really mean. Thgis anime really hit me hard and left me thinking for a long while afterwards what the universe could be, and what it really is.

Hmm Evangelion had the weird effect of hard us humans can go to far and thus forth kill each other. Its may be only a matter of time b4 we create something that really destructive like a living creature. WE already have weapons and cloning has been successful. Ahh eva mainly may me think how our on science may destroy us all.

I was kinda shocked with that ending, i thought myself: are we humans like objects that can be replaced that easily anytime? and also wondering if god really exist and if it exist, does it really play with our lives likes strings?

Yes.....NGE......difficult to follow storyline, and just when you thought you had it you watch the movies. Left me shellshocked for a few days.
Then of course my friends and I tried to figure the story out again. Then we got some additional official and non-official information (released from Gainax or fans). Then I wathced the whole thing again, slowly and making notes. Made rather decent progress - and then I watched the movies. Messed me up again. Still arguing and speculatring with my friends on what the hell is going on. Discussions can get pretty excited.
I have to remind myself though that they originally made only the series, but because of the fans' outcry due to the last two episodes (the line-drawn psycho-analysis), they made the last movies in (I believe) spite.
"You want an impressive ending? We'll give you an impressive ending you ungratefull sods!" the director seemed to say.

NGE didn't teach me anything really. It was all things we already knew, scientists love tinkering with things they don't understand, people don't think about the reprocussions of their actions, people are tied to their emotions for better or worse, ect...
It doesn't paint a pretty picture, but it paints a pretty realistic one.

Well it made my love anime a little more. NGE is a masterpiece. Also I think that NGE while is hard to keep track of it and understand many of the "metaphores" that exposes simply go to the same questions that human beings always do: does life have any meaning? does life always have little twists? Do we always humans like to play god?
There are too many things that actually NGE make you think about.

Well, it was one of my first animes. What motivated me to watch more anime is not for the art or action. More of into the story and the value of life. Of course i was baffled by the ending which i still am. None the less episode 1-24 was good. Mechs for life man
What is it?

The movie end of eva is the only anime that has disturbed me so much it took 2 and half weeks before I could watch it again. The sencery over load didn't help much either. Effect would probobly taht you may know a person really well and then find out you don't know them at all.

left me disturbed and amazed. however, evangelion is a truly beautiful anime indeed. The psychotic storyline adds to its flavor. Makes you think of it consistently every time you remember it. Reflects a lot about life and human behavior.

NGE made me fall asleep during the final episodes and the end of the EoE movie. Besides, it's nothing more than a combination of a couple of shows from the 80s...so meh.

It didn't have much affect on me, I really had to motivate myself to finish watching the last few episodes. But ya Rei and Asuka make it worth it.

After watchin the series...it made me reflect on a lot of stuff about my life...about things that are happening around me and the true porpose of living...
Plus it featured REI which, for me, is one of the best charcters I've seen...^^

I suppose it made me think more about human nature. You can't forget its still just an anime though, so while its awesome to get a deeper meaning from it, I don't think people should take it ultimately seriously as if everything in it can be applied to real life - there are just some things that were totally made up. But yeah, Evangelion is a cool anime, probably my favourite. And it did have a lot to say about human nature, the state of existence, etc. It definitely had a profound effect on me, although its a bit difficult to really put into words.

NGE made me think about my relationships with others. I think that this questioning must be something NGE creators intended.

After watching it i got a bit "depressed". At first some of the moments between Asuka and Shinji left me a bit confused so had to watch it 2 times. After that i spent about 1 week of reflection, lets call it that. Thought about myself and the others, the interactions of people, me, the whole World, it's not easy to explain, it's the kind of things you have to feel to understand.
Asuka's "death" in EoE for me was the most disturbing part of NGE.

Through all the series, I felt intrigued and wanted to know more about the characters. I think the scene which had the most impact on me was the one where Shinji's Eva escapes from his control and attacks (eats) another. At that point I felt the series was spiralling towards beastly violence, and I was expecting a catastrophic ending.
Instead, I liked the ending (although the character's actual fate is not clear...) which felt "optimistic" and liberating to me- with Shinji finally opening up to others.- Aug 16, 2007

I presume you're talking about the series ending right? Not the EoE ending. Well the EoE ending was...a lot of things :\ and somewhere in all that introspection i guess one could find optimism as well (if you look hard enough) ^_^' ;)
Well in any case for those of you still wondering about what exactly the ending is all about, or the entire series as a matter of fact. just to let you know Evangelion is COMING BACK! o_0 ;)
Rebuild of Evangelion is returning in 4 animated movies retelling the series in a different light (a new character, changes here and there) leading to a brand new ending ! ;) XD
Here are 2 trailers so far.

They will be keeping most of the iconic scenes from the original series but reanimate everything to meet up with the advancement of animation technology and give Evangelion a fresh new look!
