Hi folks,
Does anyone has ever tried (or had) an electrical viola, cello... I'm planning to buy an electrical cello, but I don't know which one is great, which one is not... where to buy it (on Internet, if possible)... Cheap places ^^
I'm quite interested in the Yamaha cello series... but it's really expensive... 1600$...
I'll greatly appreciate any comment on this topic XD

wish i could help, but the only electric stringed instrument I have is a Fender. I saw a really cool electric violin once though...I'd be hard pressed to describe it, but it surely must have been a custom job.

I also have an Aria Pro II bass gtar... with a TraceElliot... I'm also wondering if I could play cello on my TE ? or, do I need a cello amp ?

That's a good question. Nothing came out particularly clean the time I tried to play a CD through my amp for kicks, so my guess would be that the sound on a bass amp may not be suited to an electric cello, but it might work.

Perhaps you've already tried this, but after searching with Google, EBay and www.everything2.org for "electrical cello", ".. viola", and ".. string instrument", I came up empty. I found less than a page of results if I got anything at all. This does seem odd now in the age of "everything can be found online" but I imagine the subject of electrical cellos could be one that has been overlooked.

The one suggestion I could make is to talk to somebody who's knowledgeable about musical instruments generally, and one place comes to my mind because my father had his tuba repaired by them last year. Hickey's Music in Ithaca should know about electrical cellos even if they don't sell them (and I saw a lot of instruments when I visited their store).
