It must be a real, recognizable brand. Regional brands are fine. If the brand has a Wikipedia entry, then consider it acceptable.

does it have to be a specific product, or can it be something general, like those "got milk" ads, which just advertises milk, but not a specific brand.

I would consider Industry Boards' campaigns (ie California Milk Processor Board's "Got Milk" campaign or California Milk Advisory's "Real California Cheese" campaign) valid fodder for this round, since their advertising taglines are practically brands in their own right.
