I always thought what people think about singers from famous group Nightwish.
I always loved Tarja Turunen because she has interesting and beautiful voice, and that's why i always listened nightwish.
Now with the new singer Anette Olzon, nightwish is i say doomed. She sings regular just like other singers and Tarja was SPECTACULAR!
Now i'm sorry for saying stuff like that for Annette fans...

What do you think about these singers? Please vote and comment

I find both of them excellent singers, but yes, seems to me like Tarja has a more impressive voice. Beside I feel like Annete is more about being cool with the camera and looking good while Tarja was a little bit more natural, just about singing.

So, when did Nightwish end up being all about Tarja?

I went ahead and bought their newest album, and you know what? It's the best album I've heard since Wishmaster and Oceanborn. (Century Child and Nemo were both rather disappointing albums.) And while Anette doesn't do soprano the same way Tarja does, she's still doing an admirable job for the band. She's proven herself to me, at least.

Going their separate ways might very well have been the best thing happening for both parts, because, obviously, there has been frictions within the band for some time. In the end, Nightwish has a new singer that does a good job, difference in voice notwithstanding, and Tarja can pursue her solo career at her own pace.

Nightwish is hardly doomed. They might lose the fans that are hung up on Tarja, but that's about it.

I Think both are great singers, different styles and all that
But I really going to miss hearing Tarja as lead vocals on Nightwish. Metal Opera was really good.
Anyway, Toumas keeps writting good music and I really hope that doesn't change ^^

By Nemo I think you mean the Album "Once"? (Nemo was just a track on that cd). I actually thought Century Child was the best of their albums (personally), mostly because it's the only album of theirs I can say that I honestly really like all of the tracks on it (though my top favorite songs are on Wishmaster and Oceanborn...). It's all preference, though, I guess.

While I will miss Tarja's voice for a while, I don't think it's the end of the world because the band split up from her. It seems bands tend to be destroyed when they put up with the friction rather than acknowledging it, and who knows, maybe Tarja will make her own albums sometime. I like what I've heard by Anette so far, and I think the band will be ok. Their overall sound hasn't changed, and Anette still compliments their style, so I think it will work out as long as people aren't closed-minded to the fact they have a new singer.

What's very funny to me about this comment is that what you stated about Anette is part of what the Band accused Tarja of. Don't let your "Tarja-Admiration" cloud how you look at Anette.

And YoruAngel866, get a grip, please. The band isn't doomed because Tarja quit. If you feel THAT strongly I'd say you probably aren't a "Nightwish" fan, but a "Tarja" fan. If you choose to insist you are in fact a "Nightwish" fan, then try to be more supportive of the band rather than labeling it like the apocalypse because they got a new singer. It's not like she sounds like a squeaky tire, and Tarja had some pretty bad moments in music too (most singers do, they're people, and not always perfect).

Ups, yeah, I meant "Once". Bork on me. ^^;;

But my point still stands. Almost makes me wonder how much people cared when Kamelot changed their singer. Judging by the band's popularity, I'd say it was irrelevant in the end. (In fact, I haven't ever heard any of Kamelot's songs from before Khan's joining.

What's more, Anette will most likely become even better at this once she's been with the band for quite some time.

Northy,

About Kamelot.

Khan is way ahead of the other singer, for the life of me I can't recall who it is. They had a few good tracks, but Khan brings a lot more to the table. Despite, I think their last album was step backwards for them, IMO.

Kamelot had another singer? XD I never knew that. Or maybe that was why I didn't like their older tracks much, but since I'm not sure when they got Khan I don't know if it's because it was a different singer or that he drastically improved.

Anyways, sorry I was hostile sounding earlier (I should have really re-read was I was typing before I posted). I have to say that since I bought the new Nightwish CD and listened to all of the tracks I think it's a pretty average cd from them. There are some tracks that I really really like (the instrumental version cd that comes with the special edition is very much worth it, I think), but then there are other tracks that just don't interest me, but that's fairly typical for how I feel about their cds. I think Century Child is the only cd I liked entirely, even if my favorite tracks aren't actually on that cd. But that's just a fan-by-fan thing, and since both Nightwish and Kamelot have basic styles that they seem to tinker with I always look forward to hearing what they come up with next. Maybe that's why I wasn't so distraught over a new singer, I'm not afraid of change like that.

Though I might cry for a bit if Khan left Kamelot ^_^' but since I love the singer and the band's sound I'd follow both of them if they split. I'm a fan of both (Khan and Kamelot, whoo-hoo!), and it just makes me that much happier to see them as a band, but I wouldn't panic over something like a division.

Raindrop: If you don't already know this, then you might be interested in learning that Khan once sung for an all-Norwegian metal band called Conception. They released four CDs (all of which I own), and while Conception is quite different from Kamelot, I like it quite a lot. (I wouldn't have bought all their CDs if I didn't, right?)

I'd describe their style as... well, something akin to Queensryche and Iron Maiden. Yes, something like that.

As for Kamelot, I picked up Siege Perilous this summer, and found it rather.... underwhelming. Maybe it's because this was Khan's first album with Kamelot, where he not only had to adapt to a new style, but also because he was singing for people he had probably just gotten to know.

But that's off topic. So yeah... Nightwish. I'm looking forward to seeing where they're going from here. ^^;;

I think Anette has one of the most ordinary and dull voice ever
Now Nightwish just sounds like Evanesence wannabes........ (sry for being bias and all that)
Tarja has rather a weird but a much more beautiful voice than Anette
I must say that Nightwish is now a band with awesome instrumental and weak vocal even though Marco still sings.....
It's still not the same without Tarja

I like them both. Tarja had a beautiful haunting voice that I'll miss, but Anette's voice seems to have a bit more emotion to it.

I thought Nightwish was done for after Tarja was kicked out. And then I heard the single Amaranth. Shit, that was like the moment of enlightment xD I think Anette's an amazing replacement for Tarja. I don't think they can be compared, really. While Tarja did more of Opera Metal, Anette's vocals are slightly different .. They're equally good in their both ways, I'd say.

I agree with most Tarja is better. I mean Anette is a good singer but she just isnt Tarja. It has turned nightwish into more of a pop sound and i preferred their old sound better. Rock Opera is just awesome.

Maybe Nightwish needs a lil' more time to get used to Anette. I mean, Tarja's been around for quite some time and fans have grown attached to her as the time goes by. Her loss may be a big problem, but with the coming of Anette, Nightwish will be taking a different turn in life.

It will take a while, but pretty soon, everyone will just stop complaining and get used to Anette's. =P

Would you like to play a little game?

I agree with Northy. ^

But I'll add some of my own opinions to this thread.

My answer to the poll is - they are both good to me.

I'm kinda glad that they did go separate ways though because of the friction that was in the band that way they can move on and achieve what they're aiming for. Tarja can focus on her solo career singing the way and how she wants too. Nightwish can go on playing music they enjoyed to their loyal fans without that friction atmosphere around them. It's not like I don't like Tarja or anything but it felt like they weren't achieving what they want when they were together, imho.

Do I believe Nightwish is doomed? Hell no. Their new album just proves it. It's bloody awesome and it has a balance of heavy and soft songs that displays Anette's singing abilities with the little training she has [compared to Tarja]. She's proven to me that she has the potential to do even better than what she has achieved in DDP (Dark Passion Play). Anette is able to tell the story and send out the messages of Toumas' songwriting.

I'm looking forward to what the band's going to produce in the future.
