Sorry if this thread is a little old and/or dead, but I kind of would like to put in my two cents.
I'm a Christian and I believe God is all knowing, all powerful, forever loving and merciful, yet he's also a jealous and
wrathful being. After all, we, as Christians, are like his bride and when we indulge ourselves in worldly things rather
than him, any spouse would become jealous. However, unlike us, God doesn't show his jealousy the way we think of
jealousy and it being displayed. He also gives us more opportunities than we deserve, and continues to forgive us no
matter how much we make the same mistake (so long as we ask for forgiveness, he's willing), however, when we turn away
and refuse to return no matter how much he calls out to us to return or when we turn away and end up hurting those he
loves, then yes, he will show his wrath.
As for all of the supposed evil deeds he's commanded others to do, like the proverb from the Bible said, one cannot put
new wine in an old wine skin. Therefore, one cannot create a new, pure city while the old impure and unclean things
still exist (and considering how many times God has given these people the opportunity to turn away from their sins and
they refused, the only other way was to remove the source of evil and corruption from the root in an attempt to start
over).
Or something to that extent.
In any case, I don't blame God for the state of the world or anything of the sort. God created humans with brains to use
and this is what we've decided to do with it. Blaming God for our own actions is kind of funny really (and quite a
natural human thing to do). God does not take our hands from the moment we're born and tell us how to live, where to go
or whatever. Instead, he waits for us to go to him and seek his help. He's always there, ready and willing. However, as
humans, we tend to seek independence and refuse the help of others. Therefore, when God "doesn't help out"
it's more or less that we won't let him.
Anyway, I really don't think God needs to prove himself to a bunch of people who don't even want to believe in him. Why
should God show himself to someone who only wants him to as a show of mockery? God does not get pulled into such
worthless gimmicks and he doesn't need to show or prove that he's real to people, especially those who won't take the
time to realize all of the proof he's already given us (though, those who don't believe tend to shove 'science' as the
reason why everything exists and refuse to realize that the science has to have come from somewhere too).
Mm, something like that anyway. I like God the way he is. Even if my ideas of him are wrong, I don't want to think that
I'd come to hate him or dislike him for any reason. Many of my prayers have been answered, more than what was deserved
anyway, so I have no reason to deny his existence, love or grace.
