This is another poem I am proud of, regardless of what you think of it. I just wish people'd realize this message the poems gives. People are the most destructive thing on the planet, we see something that can do us any harm and we kill it. Whether it's for fun, or sport, or you didn't like it, or for money. You shouldn't punish when you have no reason.
A Life's Worth
I lay on my stomach on a lonely sidewalk
Of the neighborhood I used to occupy
Not another in sight and so I stalk
A small spider who appears waiting to die
A fine speciman the spider is
Bold colors on it's body, poisenous no doubt
So much harm can be done by this
But there is no need to stomp and shout
The spider did nothing to me
So I see no reason for it to die
If I trust the spider, it will trust me
So I ask all of you why..
Why must this spider die?
No life is worth more than another
Sure, it could do great damage
But so could we
And it does nothing yet we kill it
What is a life's worth?
I hold out my hand to the spider
It crawls on without wasting time
Without a reason, he is no fighter
His life is worth as much as mine
Later that night as I lie in bed
All is calm and peaceful, but something's awry
Thoughts on the spider dance in my head
When outside I hear something cry
I rush to my city apartment window
And gaze into the dark alleyway
But there is nothing that I can do
For a poor cat, killed late that day
Hit by a car, the poor thing was tossed aside
No one cared about it, in the alley it sat
Blood painted the floor, I can guess how it died
But to everyone, it was just a cat
But a young girl sat by her lost pet
It was more than a cat to her
Those careless drivers are in debt
Because she'll never hear it's sweet purr
I dare all of you to think of a reason
That poor creature had to die
But you can't, there is no reason
Once again I'll ask you why..
Why must that cat die?
It wasn't worth your time?
You could've helped it but you didn't
It did nothing to you
It was just a cat to you
But it was this girl's only friend
And the same goes for snakes, sharks,
Birds, bugs, wolves, and all the others
We shouldn't punish when we have no need
They aren't just spare parts
Do you think nothing is felt by owners or mothers
I wish my lecture you'd heed
What is a life's worth?
