My fav would be Gundam Seed and Code Geass, i think i like Gundam Seed a little more because it also has a sentimental value. As for fav mechs: Guren MK-II, Strike Freedom and Gaia.

Anime - Gundam Seed/Destiny (Destiny was great in the beginning, sucked in the middle, then redeemed itself towards the end) along with Full Metal Panic! and FMP: TSR
Mech - MS-07B3 Gouf Custom from MS: The 8th MS Team (that shield mounted gatling gun was awesome!) and Heavy Arms Custom from Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz.

Okay, you all may not count this as a "mech," but I'm throwing this big-humanoid-machine out there as my fav. I prefer Escaflowne, mostly because I think it's cool that the machine gets its power from a drag-engergist, and that the mechanisms for moving are gears, wires, and who knows what all. It's a different take on your average mech, that's for sure and that's why I like Escaflowne the best. For it's uniqueness.
As far as mech animes go, I'll have to say Gundam Wing is my favorite. If simply because it was the first Gundam I saw. Oh and the angsty boys in it. Can't forget them. ;) lol.

To tell you the truth, I don't know that I have a favorite mecha anime -- I love super robots and have since I was a young pup glued to the television watching Voltron, but I don't know that I've nailed down a single favorite series after all these years. Too hard to choose, I suppose.

- wing zero custom and death scythe hell custom (from gundam wing OVA endless waltz ~ they seem like angel and devil :P)
- dynames and OO (from gundam OO ~ effective in long and short range combat battle)
- strike noir and strike freedom (from gundam seed/destiny/stargazer ~ cool design and so powerful)
- rayearth (from magic knight earth ~ CLAMP's design rock!)~kitto dekiru~
