'Coz smokers have freedom to choose to smoke. If you stay healthy, they should disappear faster than you do, so don't worry too much. But if you still worry, then maybe can consider becoming an activist and lobby your government to simply make smoking illegal. Is Singapore already doing it?

I totally agree, all the people smoking everywhere is really unhealthy to the rest of us who are not smoking, but have to breathe their contaminated air.

They should make smoking illegal in all places except smoking zones to keep the smoke away from others, and actually enforce the law (I see people smoking in non-smoking zones all the time and the police just do nothing.)

PS: As a side note... marijuana is legal in certain states now, and apparently its not under the "non-smoking zone" law because the non-smoking zone is only for cigarettes. So people can smoke marijuana everywhere, literally, including non-smoking zones.

My mom has to work together in a room with couple of smokers and they make her health bad :(
I wouldn't have anything against smokers if they just made their health bad, but passive smoking is even more dangerous to us than just smoking is to them since they inhale the smoke that is filtered and we inhale the rest. I think smoking should be banned everywhere except maybe they can smoke at their homes.

Smoking is a charm to youth, other then alcohol, principally in parties, they smoke to feel more in the "Clime". Some of those get addicted to it, some of those don't. Those who get addicted r those u see around with a cigarette.

I smoke "shisha" on some parties. Its like once each 3 weeks or something like that. Shisha isnt a cigarette, is an eastern smoke. You can find that specially on India and on the Mid-east.

When i smoked a cigarette I hated it, so i got away from it. I dont see anything "awesome" to attract so many ppl. Maybe the nicotine has more power on them? I dunno. Anywayz, smokers r really annoying afterall.

I have asthma so it flares mine up, I just go to places where it's banned so I don't have to use my inhaler, but not to be rude or anything but for the most part only stupid people would do such a thing...it's hard to give up an addiction, I of all people know about addictions, recovering food addict myself, but truth be told there are ways of fixing oneself and recovering...but that's my take on it

it is because of the feel good sensation that smoking nicotine brings to the smoker especially when he is depressed although another reason would be because of the cool factor it brings

I do not mind what people want to do with their bodies; they can drink alcohol or smoke to death if they want, but it does annoy me that there are so many of them, usually in crowded places and public areas, and there is no local law that prohibits them from doing such. I mean, they can smoke in their cars, or their home; they have the option to NOT SMOKE, whereas we non-smokers do not have the option to NOT BREATHE. Well, we do, but then we'd die after a few minutes.

Smoking is bad for my health, and I'm not just talking about second-hand smoke. I have a bad allergic reaction to smoke, especially cigarettes, tobacco, burning garbage and car emission; I don't protest against cigarettes though and I just try go get as far away from the smokers as possible. It ticks me off though when those kinds of people see other people who should not be around smokers, but can't even stop smoking for a whole minute. I am talking about obviously sick people, or pregnant women. I often see pregnant women in public areas, and then a guy beside her suddenly lights a cigarette and goes huffing, puffing non-stop. It is just plain rude and unmindful of others.

I don't really like Cigarettes because of all the chemicals that are put into them, but plain tobacco (Pipe, cigar) doesn't really bother me. I don't want to smoke, one because I just don't see the need, secondly, I breathe in enough welding fumes and car exhaust to give me cancer anyway, I don't really want to increase that risk.

Biased reply below... I really hate cigarettes...

"It's slow-mo terr*rism and gen*cide on an impartial scale; currently, humans are trying to hasten it by removing the natural air filters known as plant life, and then there's all the other millions of little things they do to improve the world while destroying it with better efficiency..."

To answer the topic, it's an irrational trend to offset all the common-sense in life. It's costly, poisonous, kills you slowly, kills the people around you slowly; in effect, it's a curse that most people seem to be unable to act against. Some can't even recognise it.

The social bit is illogical if the involved parties stop to use their brain while it's still functional. If you happen to be severely allergic to milk (die nearly instantaneously on consuming milk) all your friends decide to order milk coffee at starbucks, would you order the same milk coffee knowing all too well the fatal results, just to be social?

The direct chemical results I've observed on myself... I'm a typical everyday idiot, but on whiffing even a hint of cigarette smoke, homicidal thoughts come up to the front, like a "release the beast" trigger.

Stuff like kicking the guy in front of me down the long long flight of stairs on the overhead bridge, simply because he just had to smoke and walk in front of others, trailing smoke all the way so that everyone walking behind suffers... it's some sort of "Mr. Hyde" reaction, and I'm scared that some day I might actually act on the impulse.

I'd probably become a true believer if the world manages to eradicate filthy stuff like cigarettes...

The reason why it relieving stress is because your body (at least your body sensors) love it and it's give effect like if you do something that you really like (e.g such as eatin really good food etc)

People smoke because they're curious about what it's like, after seeing their friends and other influential people smoking. then, they get addicted. It's that simple. This is why i think marijuana is better than cigarettes.

My opinion is that more than half of them consider themselves cool when smoking. Others are too stressed and they find relief in smoking.
Either way, I absolutely hate it, and will never smoke. It's one of the stupidest things mankind has ever invented.

I suppose that I would have to try smoking before I could fully understand the addictive nature of nicotine.

As it stands, smoking cigarettes is--in my opinion--a filthy habit. I can't abide the way that the taste and smell of tobacco seems to permeate EVERYTHING, clinging to the skin, hair, and clothing of everyone in the vicinity. I've also heard that tobacco changes the taste of the skin and bodily fluids. Whenever I imagine kissing or being intimate with a smoker, all I can think is: Yuck!

From my point of view, there are a lot of reasons that are able to make or even force someone to smoke.I have been smoking for about 2 years but fortunately I quit like 5-6 months ago.The reason that I started smoking was mostly because of my girlfriend, she is a smoker and since I am getting affected easily from my environment...well I couldn't help it, it felt soooo good at that time.My friends reactions and the dissapointment that I use to face every time that I use to smoke next to them helped me to stop smoking.
I think that most of the people start for the same reason (to look better or maybe "cool" or something) but I think that a smoker is not able to understand the damage that is being caused to him until he quit smoking.
