I have a thing going about what people believe is the BEST Final Fantasy. To me FF7 is WAAAYYY over-rated and I wanted to know also if there was a movie to be made off of the ps1 FF's which would be the best movie. Now in my opinion I think that FF8 woudl make a great movies, but tell me what y'all think! n.n

Popularity-wise: Final Fantasy 7 owns us all. It is also the first 3D ff game. It has one of the best story-lines in the series and highly lovable characters.

Personally: FF8 is still my favorite. Although the story-line is good, the fact that square seemed to have laid-low on the creative side of the game pretty much crippled the game. Although ff8 is the first non-chibi final fantasy game the game lacks more 'action' in terms of the effectiveness of the plot.

The other games, especially the newer games from 9 up, is by far inferior to the two IMO when it comes to style. The only advantage these games have are superior graphics and better re-playability.

So what's the best ff game out there? It probably depends on the gamers taste. Me? I'd still prefer ff8 over the others.

I think that movie wise Final Fantasy 8 or 9 would make a good movie. They both have great story-lines and had less of the attention. Final Fantasy 7 has been out-done I think because they have several games out and they have a movie and will probably have more in the future. But what about the others? Yes the others could have had more work done but all the same. My favorite FF is 9, merely for the characters. They i think are hilarious...

Man this is a tough one... I absolutely loved the plot in FF8, the whole junction thing took me a while to get used to though, but once I figured it out (yeah I'm a noob when it comes to RPGs) it made the game more enjoyable. FF9 as a close second. As for FF7 like I know it's a classic and everyone loves it, but I gotta be honest, I'm a total graphics whore and I actually played both 8 and 9 before I did 7 so I found the visuals to be disappointing, good plot though.

To me, the best FF games are 6 and 9 (and why isn't the pre-PS1 FF's included on the list, hmmm?) But honestly? I hardly think of the FF games as the pinnacle in JRPG goodness. There are just too many non-Square RPGs that I find better, like Lunar TSS and EB, Grandia 1 and 2, Tales of Symphonia, the Phantasy Star series and possibly a few more.

I have played many of the FFs, but I think the best should be 7.. followed by 9.

I don't really like 8, cause the game was pretty much screwed up (in my opinion). It gets boring to me, doesn't really attract me to uncover the plot further. Probably a slow start in the plot that causes this.

My decision was based on the plots of the games, not style (and since I didn't bother to learn the plot of 8, well its out the question :D)

For graphic players, well hope for a FF7 in PS3, that should be a swell one. Though Square doesn't seem too keen on that project..

*I do think that 7's side games like Dirge of Cerberus etc are milking the series, and some do suck

FFVII. Overrated but my first RPG anf first FF game. To me, always will be the best in the series.

Where are the pre-PS Final Fantasies? Those had a charm that the newer ones don't have that I prefer...
While I do agree that it is way overrated (and Square themselves isn't helping any now that they've turned it into a money making machine), my favorite is FFVII... in no small part because it was the only one I've played fully. >_>

That said, that game ruled my childhood. XD

Haha, to be honest, I got into Final Fantasy quite late. I watched my cousins play when I was little, but the first game that I played was 12, haha. I figured I would save up for more important things then just games, but I tried it and liked it. My favorite would have to be 7 also. Idk, it was good to me, haha, tried hard in that game, hahaha.

For me it has to be Final Fantasy VI or III as it was released in US as. To be it has a very solid story and the most bad kitten boss in ANY video game, Cefca Palazzo. Cefca not only managed to destroy TWO worlds, he also managed to become a TRUE God, not just pretending to be one.

Though all I see are the 1997 and beyond Final Fantasy's, is there any reason behind this? Though VII was good, it was the start of the downward spiral of the Final Fantasy greats. They started to focus on Graphics instead of Story.

Actually some of the ones I think are the best aren't listen. I love FF Tactics. Now that is an epic story line. Maybe I'm just a fan of the old school ones, but I also think the early ones like FF4. FF5 and FF6 had great stories.

I dunno... I really like FF4/6/9.

I just played FF X, X-2 and XII.
So from this three, FF X is the best. But I already heard from my friends that FF VII is the best FF game ever. So i guess i should play it too XD"

i've played (but not completed some of it) ff3, ff4 (both nintendo DS versions), ff5, ff6, ff7 and ff8 (and Crisis Core and Dissidia, but those don't count). I like ff7 probably because it's the first final fantasy game i ever played. though story-line wise it's a bit more complicated compared to the other stories (especially due to its many prequels, sequels and side stories). ff6 and 7 seems to be almost on par with each other (due to the many similarities in the story) ff7 is preferred probably because it has a bit more modern setting.

there are different aspects to look into a game. storyline, characters, character development, environment, music, graphics and gameplay.

storyline wise, ff6/ff7 are pretty much good. ff8 had a storyline which was a tad silly. (i don't really know much about the rest, but ff x-2 was silly to me as well)

characters in ff8 were better compared to ff7 (because cloud, tifa, yuffie, barret, sephiroth and cait sith are abit overdone. whereas ff8 provided characters like rinoa, laguna, edea, irvine and ultimecia which seem more human [ultimecia because she wants time compression so that no one will ever have to die]) I can't really feel for characters in ff6 except for celes.
character development in most ffs are a bit lacking. ff8 had the best character development, especially rinoa and squall.

environment in ff8 takes the cake. ff7 is a bit too bland. and the other ffs are because of 2D-ness. (If you want breath-taking environments, VP2 is the best amongst squeenix's works)

as for music, nobuo does a pretty good job for Aria de Mezzo Carratere (and the new version, Opera of Maria and Draco) and others. (by the by, crisis core music sucks except for a few pieces)

graphic wise will of course be the ffs to come, ff13 and whatnot.

gameplay in most final fantasy games that i've played are pretty much the same. I like ff8 because of magic draws and gf abilities which lets me combine and upgrade magic rather than buy/obtain materia then levelling it. (MP is a pain sometimes) Upgrading weapons through item collection makes it pretty fun (and horridly torrid sometimes) hunting for stuff. Also, because of the card games. (yes. i am biased due to minigames. I especially like the snowboarding game in ff7). Crisis Core had a different gameplay, but missions are utterly awful, character development is awful, storyline seems stuffed in for more content. (the only reason to play it is because of Zack.)

all in all. each ff games have their strengths and weaknesses. let's just hope that squeenix gives us a good one this time. my opinions are only based on what i've experienced. i havent completed a lot of games. just so you know. XD

hmm... For me its FFVIII, but I don't really know why I like it.
maybe because I played it first. I also like FFVII and FFIX.
until now, I still confuse to choose which is the best >.<

Final Fantasy 7 is classic and I don't think it is overrated because it is awesome. Incredible story line and characters which fall to our mind. Final fantasy 8 of course is good but i think it lack something for me to be as good as 7-th.
The other final fantasy which I think as good as 7 is 10. Maybe because i was than hungry for good rpg and beautiful storyline but who knows.
To which ps1 final fantasy should be movie: My answer is.. they made to ff7 and I think it is enough of using this one. They just sucked all life from it and they still got ff8 which is just incredible. There shouldn't be any problem in making movie from it and it will surely be first class plot.
