Final Fantasy 7 is the best in my opinion. It has an amazing story line that was really fun, and had a fairly decent game play system. For me it was really the story line that made the game for me, along with the cool summons and limit breaks. I hope FFXIII will be just as amazing, or maybe even more, since they are basing the characters off of FFVII characters. On top of that the graphics and new battle play style look incredible, as well as the gunblade.

When nothing makes sense, I'll fight believing only in myself.

Final Fantasy 7 and 8 are both good. But for me 7 had a little bit more going for it. its hard to chose between the 2 but in the end ill chose 7 cause I liked the materia system.

There is a reason why FFVII is so immensely popular, and that reason is simply because it truly was an amazing game. FOR IT'S TIME. I think FFVII needs to be put to rest now and the spotlight needs to shine somewhere else before they totally ruin it. Advent Children Complete is SERIOUSLY pushing the boundaries, and while I AM interested in it, I'd drop AC completely for, say an FFVIII movie of some sort.

Which brings me to the point of my post: FFVIII is my ultimate favourite, followed closely by FFIV, which sadly, isn't even listed in the poll. D: Horribly easy game play aside, FFVIII had a good plot, stunning graphics (You should've seen me squeal at Squall lololol), and fantastic music (Liberi Fatali ftw). I also liked a fair majority of the characters; Squall, Laguna and Rinoa (If only because I fangirl SquallxRinoa so hard) being the top 3 of the list. I don't think I can really say much more without delving into the utter fangirl side of things, so I'll leave it at this. ;P
However, if SE were to make a FFVIII movie of some sort, or even give it another chance at ANYTHING, I'd be able to die happily.

Some people would consider this question rhetorical you know. Anyway. Asking which FF is the best is a bit vague. Each title brought something new so it's a bit hard to compare. The only aspect which we can compare with the least bias would be the storyline. The musical scoring and the graphics inevitably favors the recent titles and gameplay is almost unique for each one (save for the turn-based system). Regardless, I'll put my two sents in anyway.

Storylinewise, I'd have to go with 7 probably. It's got a good mix of every genre. The comedy and romance was offseted by the tragedy and cloud's depth of character development really had me scratching my head. The ending's a classic though and though it seemed expected, it's unassailable.

After 7 would be 8 and 9. Both were heavy on the romance-drama but I'd favor 9 more for better humor. 10 is a bit odd for me. It had an overkill plot on the 1st installment which i enjoyed but X-2 was a bit too random.

Other than these plots the only story i appreciated was 6's the rest seemed a bit too cliche.

Anyway, to more important matter, gameplay. Like i said before, gameplay for each was meant to be different so it all boils down to preferrence.

Everyone from 8 down is a turn-off save for 6. Let's face it, the basic turn-based system is a thing of the past. And though some innovations were good some were awful too. 6's machines were something fresh but 8's junction isn;t really that positive. Yes, you can play with your character alot. Customizing them to create individuality but that gets boring. When i faced Omega weapon in 8, Squall, Rinoa and Quistis were basically immortals. I couldnt tell them apart when i looked at their stats alone. Though their limit breaks do make-up for this, the rest gets boring quickly. Thank heavens its a romance.

In this light 10 recieves a thumbs up. The random battles are and the TBS revieced an upgrade but it aint that special. Now, 11 is a whole world apart. It tops every title on gameplay. Too bad it doesnt have a concrete story but that's a strong point to. You can "fantasize" a plot in a final fantasy game, amusing really. Talking to real people really gets you thrilled but it also pisses you off when you meet jerks and you can't really expect to be the main man all the time. Too bad you can only control 1 character at a time not to mention it costs you extre to have another one in the garage.

Finally 12. Twelve merges online and ofline FF's. In a seemless world where you can control almost everything, it really gives you a good "real" feel for a fantasy game. Its got the best of both worlds. but like 8, everyone can be a superhero. Zodiac job system takes care of that though. I'd have to go with 12 for the gameplay but that's because i haven't got 13 yet. That command stacking really has me drooling.

In terms of which can make a good movie. I'd want to see 8 or 9 in 16:9 or wider.

And, i just have to say this, I'd want a 3d remake of 3 through 6!

One word. Final Fantasy Dissidia. That game rocks and the movie scenes truely awesome. Plus those seiyuu than english dubbed actors or actress. XD

final fantasy VII is the best, FF VIII is good beacuse FF VIII is the first 3d(better than 2d) and have theme song like eye's on me....

the next series FF IX, grafic not like FF VIII but have theme song too, and the storygame is better than FFVIII

final fantasy vii is overrated, sure it was a great back when it debuted on the psx, but it certainly hasn't aged very well over time, but that sure didnt stop square enix from milking the series. if anything final fantasy vi is and always has been one of the best games in the series, but seeing as ix was amazing as well. i chose final fantasy ix. i don't know how many times this question has been asked, but every forum i've ever visited has always had this thing asked somewhere on it.

FF VIII is the first FF that I played. I like the system using GF (Guardian Force) and the person is not chibby as well (More realistic, I like realistic character). Not too detail but it detailed on the quote...

I think that seven and ten came out the best of these games. Mind you, nine is also pretty good. The main character in nine was neat. He is a fun rascal. ;)

However, if you're going by story, yeah seven and ten are the best of the lot. They really can get the player to care about the characters by the end.
