I'm just curious if people prefer turn based RPGs or action RPGs? This is just an example but has no correlation to the games, they are just popular titles people may know: turn base such as Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy X, or Action RPG such as Final Fantasy XII or Kingdom Hearts I/II. It seems that people are developing a lot of new action game with RPG elements and moving past the classic turn based strategic games. Both style have a lot of good strong point, and also some not very good points, but i guess this depends on the person wanting a faster paced game or a slower paced game.

Anyways, do you prefer turn based RPGs or Action RPGs, and why? Also what would you like to see more in the future, in relation to RPGs? And one last thing please respond to the Poll... Thanks Everyone

Turn-based, as always. I just found them more RPG-ish (like the classic RPGs), and more relaxed to play.

Depends on what kind of challenge or pace you are looking for. I'll go for turn-based since it's easier to predict what the enemy's going to do next. I like real-time to because...it's real time. All in all, it depends on what mood you are........and ultimately what game it is. If it's a crappy game then to hell with it, turn-based or no, I'd just burn it away.

Weep as much as you want and feel the hands of despair groping for your soul for nothing can ease the pain of losing your beloved like the gentle thrust of my pen. *poke*

Hmm,turnbased ones are nice, but they lack the action I always need from games.

Though most turnbased games like Final Fantasy X and Disgaea aren't too bad. I just need to be able to smash things in games, lol.

Whenever I'm having a mood where I want to do something calmer than all the action,I'll pick the turnbased ones,so I can actually follow how things are going while battling and I can use my brains. XD

Final Fantasy XII is still a bit of turnbased, though it's getting closer to Kingdom Hearts.

I think it depends on the mood of someone, like when one's feeling agitated/frustrated/hyper go play the action ones and when someone's calm/clear-minded go play the turnbased ones.

Which one I prefer? Action. (haha,a long story was needed to give an answer to this, lol. :P)

I liked Final Fantasy Tactics style (Also FrontMission 3 on ps2 and Jeanne Da Arc on the PSP was good), tactical turn based
Kingdom Hearts was also awesome.
FF12 was unique and enjoyable.

Change is good, so I do like to circulate between the different styles.

Turn-based is good when I'm in the mood for old-school. When I want something that feels more recent, I'll play action-based.

I've always been a fan of Real-Time.
I don't have the patience to wait in Turn-Based, it's just way too slow for me.
And I do much better under pressure when it's Real-Time.

There can never have been "nothing,"
for "something" would have to have been there to make it so.

I prefer action RPG, like The Witcher, Hard to be a God, Oblivion IV etc. But turn base that looks like Action like Final Fantasy XII. So, what is suit you best is your choice.

both are good for me...ATBs like FF series gives it a unique gameplay while Action makes the game feel more realistic. I go for any RPG's anytime

I prefer action based but I tend to pause every 2 seconds so it's a kinda like turn based.

I hate space elves so very very much. Except the small ones are good on bagels.

Generally speaking both are fine, both have their dangers. Turn based ones can get boring, action based hectic. If I have to choose one variety it would be real time with pause function to make some choices (like Baldurs Gate).

Turn Based. An FF geek like me can't help but to go to that genre :P But there are really good "action" like turn based like Valkyrie Profile and The Last Remnant (Typically, from Square Enix as well)

Turn-based or "real time but you can stop to input commands" like Rogue Galaxy, .hack and, to a lesser extent, Fallout 3.

I actually get bored more easily with grinding in action RPGs. It's probably because in turn-based combat you feel like you are still choosing something every time, as opposed to just spamming the same skill buttons.

Honestly, out of the FF's only FF 1 and FF X (and possibly FF 2 and 3 -- as in 'not the US SNES 2 and 3 that are really 4 and 6'. but the original 2 and 3) are truly turn-based, as in giving you as much time as you think you need to make your decisions. FF 4 to 9 and FF XII are all... well, hybrids, I guess. Action RPGs are used more for games like Diablo or Sacred, or possibly even Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (and all other Castlevania games that applies a similar levelling system.)

Personally, I like both. Turn-based RPGs (or turn-based/action hybrids) are more "alone" games for me, though, while action RPGs (Sacred 2, Diablo 2) are more games I play together with friends.

I also want to say that action RPGs aren't necessarily more bogged down with grinding compared to turn-based RPGs. I think it's more a case of older games forcing you to grind more compared to the newer games of today. Besides, if you have a good circle of friends to play (MMO)RPGs with, they can be a great deal of fun.

Edit: "Newer games of today". -_-;; I guess I'm just stricken with redundant redundancy from time to time, but that was just bad of me. Sorry about that. ^^;;

I stick with turn-based RPGs,action-RPGs have a higher tendency to get repetitive after a certain point in the game. But that's my opinion .-.
