Antisocial Butterfly

Earlier today I made a very disturbing discovery: A male member who interacted exclusively with girls - nearly all of them under 18 - being quite aggressively flirtatious and expressing interest in meeting them, with no reservations about their age or how far from him they live.
All red flags for a child predator.
And this is just what's in public. Who knows what even more untoward things he might have been saying through private messages.
One shouldn't be surprised, unfortunately, since child predators tend to target middle to older teens, which make up the majority of MT's membership.
So in an age where it's getting ever harder to keep safe online, I'm going to offer you these articles:
- Online Safety Tips for Teens
- Thinking Like An Online Predator Can Keep You Safe
And lastly, of course, you can always contact your local moderating staff and complain if a you think another member might be a threat. You guys are always very quick to report scammers, be just as vigilant with child predators.

ETA: It makes no difference now he's banned, but because people are so curious and I don't feel any personal obligation to protect his privacy, the member I'm referring to is Eisritter/FrigidEmbrace/Siegeldamon.

I used to be that bitch who deleted your pictures. Now that I'm gone, nobody is gonna delete your pictures anymore. Good for you.

A smart thing to bring up, Marissa.

Did this member end up getting banned?

Hahahaha, pedophilism in the internet! Theres really everything in this world! This is mostly hilarious!
Anyway, that was a good thing to do.
Damn, you gotta be careful everywhere these days.

For some reason, I would've liked to see the guy get PWNED by a Mod

http://wiredsafety.org/index.html

Are two sites as well that offer resources and online help if being harassed, cyber bullied, or even if you found child porn and want to report it.

There is live chat where you can talk to volunteers if you have a problem and need help fast as well. A lot of the volunteers are professionals, such as police, lawyers, etc.

Anytime, I've come across others that have needed help due to stalking or harassment, I've always referred them to those two sites.

I actually came across the Cyber Angels about 9 years ago from an article written up about their services in a Reader's Digest, so they have been around a long time and quite skilled at finding perpetrators that even hide behind proxies and fake ip addresses.

Great job Marissa !

By the sounds of your description, I'd say it is a safe assumption you were correct with your gut instinct on the guy.

wow, I din expect tis 2 happen in Mt

Marissa,

You took the most appropriate action. Congratulations.

I hope the pedophile member to be catched and banned ASAP.

Naturally, all of you girls must take care. Everything too good to be truth isn't good or isn't truth.

I think Minitokyo admins should consider making private messages available to audits and random auditting private messages. Circa three years ago, I started working on a company as an IT Counselor, Network and Database Administrator. When I put my feet on that company, everything was opened to everyone and everyone had anonymous access to the Internet. I found strongly questionable material on the file server.
Three months later, I had the situation changed from water to wine. Today, I rarely have problems with our users accessing or downloading questionable content.
I made all the Internet usage data available to the company management and the IT department -- including my own data. I made random audits and took the most appropriate action -- in some cases, the IT department advised the employee to be fired.
Today, all users know they don't have particular data inside the company. We know everything they make on the LAN or the Internet.
As a Network Administrator, I won't mind to have my private messages auditted as long as Minitokyo admins find pedophiles more efficiently.

Regards.

Thanks for bringing that topic up. (this coming from a 30 year-old who is getting fed up with his PMs swamped with spambots and unnecessary crap like "hi dearest" and "looking for a relationship")

Good job, Marissa.

According to my calculations, your problem doesn't exist.

Thanks for taking it up! And thanks again for telling us/me!

How about exposing the person to the police or something. Surely some kind of government agent/FBI are chatting online to expose child predators right. How about here. Bring them here to nab the guy.

You know what, I've never though MT would have a problem with any of that, but i guess no site is 100% safe from predators. Thanks for bringing it up.

I think you should let us know who is the member who is harrassing others.... So we can be consious of him.. It can be possible for him to make another account. So it will be good if we can know what type of message he wrote and then we can report it as soon as possible if he did open another account doing the same thing...

You have IP info, right? If you have enough info to get a red alert in your mind, perhpas forwarding a helpful "FYI" to the service provider would be in order? Probably can't go to law enforcement at this point, without something really incriminating.
Remember, kids (I only say that because I'm *old*) - you never know who you're talking to out there. Even if they give you a picture, it might not be a real picture of the person. As far as the 'net goes - DTA (Don't Trust Anyone). Anyone who just wants to "be friends" will know better than to ask for a meeting or anything inappropriate.

It's not going to be any help as long as private/personal information is being kept a secret. Anyone here who've had their account banned -- unless the ban includes the IP -- can make a new account and continue trying to pick up people.

No, Marissa had the right idea. Awareness and information about predatory behavior is the way to go. This should be a parent's job; to make their children aware of the dangers that may come knocking on your virtual door with ill intentions.

It's Never Lupus!

Why so concerned about who it is? It really doesn't matter, he's banned anyway. Underage user's just need to be more aware.

It's easy to find him, though. You just need to do a little research. =P

well it's not entirely under aged he was going after, yes I was on his "hit list" as well but the irony if it was I had no idea what was going on, yes I am nieve, severally, so I'm glad it was taken care of, but sadly people like me and/or under aged people I am glad that mt is a small lil world that is nice enough to take it upon themselves, whereas the larger sites just can't handle all the mess and tend to ignore it and hope it goes away...

Thanxs for the warning (s) of "perps" online. It's very sad when people w questionable thoughts or actions want to prey on the innocent (and need I say not so innocent). Thanxs again, one can never be too careful !
