1280x960, 32bit, 85Hz on a 19" Sony crt monitor. Anything larger on that screen-size is too small for my taste.

I set up a dual monitor on Sunday, so now:
Primary - 19" LG Flatron CRT with 1600x1200
Secondary - 21" Compaq Trinitron Flat CRT with 1920x1440Both are at 75 Hz, my eyes are still trying to adjust @_@x to the 21"

1152x864 @ 75 Hertz on a 17" monitor. I'd run 1280x960, but that runs at 65 Hertz on this old thing.
I have a problem with 1280x1024. It's the wrong aspect ratio for any monitor. Nearly all standard resolutions from 640x480 all the way to 1600x1200 are a 4:3 ratio, which is what computer monitors and full screen televisions are. 1280x1024 is a 5:2 ratio, so everything appears squatter and fatter when you compress it onto a 4:3 screen. Now they don't actually make 5:2 monitors, but if they did it would be something between a standard monitor (4:3) and a wide screen monitor (16:9). Thus, I'd recommend 1280x960 (a 4:3 res.) since images would appear normally at that resolution. Anyway, that's just my thoughts on the subject, since a lot of 1280x1024 wallpapers are floating around out there and you can't use them without either squashing the image or cropping the sides.
