The sig image I want to upload is a .gif file, 439 x 60, and 44Kb. The error message I get is:
sigimg: File too Large

it could be the imagine itself, sometimes the imagine is too large mainly because of the in depth detail, try lowering it but a slight degree or making it a tad bit smaller and you will probably have it, sometimes this happens to myself as well and making the imagine just right can be time consuming but it eventually works

I've doubled the size to 60kb which should suffice for your sig img.
