So the other day a friend of mine showed me a vector she did, after that I really wanted to give it a try. While I'm new a vectoring I've been using graphic programs for a while now... though I did this one in Photoshop and it was my first time ever really using it, I mainly stick to Paintshop Pro. Anyway if I could get any tips and opinions on it to help me get better I would love that.

Btw, it's just a simple black and white vector since I just wanted to try to get the basics down first...

Very nice first take on it. The Black and White is pretty kool.

Very cleanly done ^_^. Especially for your first try.

Maybe the next thing you could try is to add more details yourself - as in, adding details to the vector that didn't exist in the original at all. Like more shadows, more patterns, etc.

And btw, there's nothing wrong with black and white :). Some pretty amazing stuff can be made without colors.
Though I also respect your decision to start with black and white as the basics first (I'm doing the same thing ^^).

Thanks guys!

Yeah, I wanted to add more detail to it but I really don't know how to do shading and such yet. I'm going to need to find a tutorial or something so I can learn. xD

looks good :D
tutorial wise... i only know http://www.myrrhlynn.net/distantdestiny/Tutorials/vectortut/vectortut01.php (which is where i learn from and works pretty well with me ^^)

as for shading and colouring, you can try http://www.myrrhlynn.net/distantdestiny/tutorialselect.php#content (the midsummer's walk through which should be the last link). i'm failing terribly at trying to understand how the genius does it :/

Shadings can also been done in black and white vectors. Though this looks really cool <<<< person who can't vector to save her own life T_T

anyway, you could use a soft brush to add some highlights on her hair and bag strap and such. They way it'll look better and more detailed. No need for a lot of details since this is monochrome. But you'll surprised that even B&W vectors can do wonders *am babbling again*

Anyway! Keep up the good work!

subject's laziness and idiocy applies to all fields in life when not in any non-lazy or non-idiotic mood-eg: I'm sleepy, I will not type. Case closed.
