depends, I have a few from each section of "time" akira, cowboy bebop, texhnolyze, devil may cry, I have more but those are from the eras not all of my favs, I know and hope others contribute, but those are just my favorites rarely do people have the same, so it would be interesting to see others list something

Cowboy Bebop, FLCL, Fullmetal Alchemist, and Neon Genesis Evangelion. Very realistic, philosophical, and complex.
Anime that people should learn from and understand.
Want to say Bleach and Naruto, but it's not as complex as these four.

most chooses FMA(FullMetal Alchemist) then i'll go for Escaflowne, its the best for me on that time period

I will say Code Geass or Death Note for "the best rebellion" story..
then Gundam 00 (S1+S2) for best mecha series..
and Eyeshield21 and One Piece for giving me an inspiration to keep charging on my dreams with my fellows ;)

It depends on what mood I'm in. I probably alternate between Aria (heartwarming slice of life), You're Under Arrest (comedy/relaxing), Ghost in the Shell SAC (action), Serial Experiments Lain (hard core sci-fi) and a couple of others.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
is unmatched when it comes to a normal length series with battles humor action drama as its mains characteristics
followed only by Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, and Neon Genesis Evangelion

Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex (both gigs)
is unmatched when it comes to a normal length series with philosophy, mystery, analysis of social phenomenons, science fiction, cyberpunk, military as its characteristics

Naruto
is the emperor of long running action / drama / humor series, and plus the only series that has Sharingan

is a dramatic series of OLDBOY proportions, that says a lot

Wolf's Rain. It's just, pure LOVE. I do find, Princess Tutu, just sooo cute, I love the fact that it is based in Germany. I don't find it to be one of the best....exactly, but one of the cutest I suppose.

one piece>the only one who surpassed dragon ball,others failed utterly,
these are the tributes for the 2 kings,
dragon ball & one piece are the only ones who deserve this tribute,this are the tributes gave by popular mangaka/manga authors like deathnote,dgrayman.naruto,bleach,eyeshield 21,gto,hellsing,claymore,to love ru etc.etc. & the authors of these 2 masterpieces, Akira Toriyama & Eiichiro Oda also gave their own tributes to each other
& one piece became legend,even it's still airing lol & it's only half away done now 2009,12 years>manga & 1 decade/10 years>anime,so another 10 years or so to come for OP & manga=on going,& it's also half away done
