Recently, I read a few threads about God and I started thinking: There are so many different concepts of God in different religions. But from what I've heard of all the religions, God is forgiving and wise and all-knowing and basically perfect. Based on religion. But. If God is in reality what all humans are supposedly striving to do, why does he punish people for having different opinions? From what I've heard, God punishes those who sin and nonbelievers. People who live their lives being good and helping the environment and world, but who don't believe in God would be punished according to the Muslim faith, from what my Muslim friend says. She says they were given the chance but did not take it, so therefore, they are punished. If God himself does not forgive people for having a different opinion about the meaning of life during the time that they had no certain answers, then why did he give us the minds to think outside of the box? To stray? That's not really what I want to say. What I'm saying is, honestly, if God punishes people for not believing in him even though they were sincerely good people, I would much rather not follow him. In my religion, the God we believe in forgives all people. Everyone. Absolutely everyone. There is no hell. There is no heaven. He forgives all people and gives them a second chance. Now, I'm not quite sure if I believe in my religion, let alone religion itself. But basically for my religion God forgives everyone and gives them another chance at life to become better people. I will not get into any explanations because honestly, I'm not here to preach.
What I'm asking is, what do you think? About everything I just said. What about the idea of an all-forgiving God? Is he less perfect than the Christian and Muslim and Catholic God for forgiving everyone because he truly loves us all and wants us to become better people?
Part of the reason I started to question God and religion is for the specific reason that there are so many religions and so many Gods that all claim to have their own proof: the Bible, signs, the Qu'ran, etc. And in some religions, one can actually be punished for being of a different faith. It's all really confusing and so I'm kind of in the middle.
So, sorry for this whole rant. I'll get to the point and stop talking. What do you think?
