If you're referring to the gameboy version then I got few:
1. Make Hybrid characters they will adapt to any kind of situation or increase their battling capabilities
Example: A fighter class with thief abilities(human)
Archers(viera) with the reflex ability from fencers(viera)
A gladiator with monk abilities
*This always takes a very long span of time and can be tiresome but the result is worth using the time
2. Use laws as your best ally because
Example: if you made the law "Forbidden: Color Magic" then the enemies will not use any colored magic against you but just make sure you dont use colored magic as well if your character don't want to go to prison
But iF in other FF tactics then I got blankThe Moon....
