Its a huge joke. Seriously look at the company thats translating it "Plastic Cow" With a name like that you know the series is one giant spoof. Literally it is, it makes the show more entertaining personally, also relates more towards kids, and I just find it comical because it just seems so stupid at times.

To answer your question, it is basically Yu-Gi-Oh, though you can decide on a personal opinion if you like it more, or hate it more than Yu-Gi-Oh. Very nice animation though =/, all card monsters are computer CG'ed of course. @_@.
