***Especially***, in a bug report group, the 'Series' field should not be value checked. It's for reporting bugs -- not correcting people's knowledge about MT's DB's idiosyncratic nomenclature.
The very nature & purpose of the group includes the ability to refer to Series that the DB may have problems with,
thus it is counter productive to type-check that field.
The series field is actually optional (as indicated on the form), but when you do fill something out, it has to match a valid series. You could argue that the field should be hidden for certain forum categories.
Hidden or not value check for *some* forum categories...either way might be less frustrating.
If a user wants to post about some problem related to a a forum category, not having the forum category they are having a problem with then be 'rejected' when they are trying to submit a problem report might not cause them increased frustration...no?
i'm not sure i understand what you are saying. the series field is used so that certain threads about eg. Bleach can be linked inside the <a href="http://www.minitokyo.net/Bleach">tag page</a>. if the field is not checked then for existence in the alias/tag tables, then how would the thread know where to place itself?
the series reference is not meant to be a substitute for "subject" its sole purpose is so that people can go to a tag page and browse related threads. this is also not really moderated heavily, so there probably exist inconsistencies.
