The sleeping Eagle

The last time I submitted a wallpaper I got some feedback. I decided to change the way I make wallpapers. Now they end up with a pretty dull background. I'm aware I still need some practise, so please tell me more then "wrong" or "bad". So I would like some advice on what I should improve (examples how, please) for the background.

I'll give comment on the bunny girl one. The BG is too simple and its giving a light effect on the girl. But I think its not good to focus the light on the "buttocks". Her face is pretty and in the wall, it was dark. All I see was her "buttocks". I guess you should do something to make her face get hit by the spotlight but still has the focus on that part. And I think you should work on a different BG too. ^^

Very well, I will try.

Here is the improved version: http://shikakuentei.deviantart.com/#/d33be5j

I changed the background.
I changed the light effect so the girl's face is better visible.

hmmnn... the girls face is now visible... though the BG really doesn't fir with the bunny girl... and why not remove the black gradient? just with a clean BG (work on it) and still has a spotlight on her

Because you adviced me to change the background. If I remove the gradient and start with a new background the entire wallpaper would be different...
Personally I do like the bg with the girl. Before the background was more or less black with only the (white) 'spotlight', now it has a background (the icy wall) and still the 'spotlight' effect...
You said that the BG doesn't fit with the bunny girl, but doesn't that give more attention to the girl (aka the main subject of the wallpaper)?

its not enough... honestly

and well, I guess I should have said that you change the Bg theme... icy brick-like is nice but in my opinion, a casino like or something like that will more fit with the bunny girl... although you like the black gradient, its not a good blend with the BG you made... but don't worry, the spotlight effect is still possible with whatever BG you have... I guess I should point to you that the black gradient makes the left side of your wallpaper "empty" and even though the girl is the subject, the wallpaper is presented as a whole and not just the image you used...

I suggest that you search for bunny girl scans and look at their BG's so you can have some reference on what will fit with the subject

I'm not so good that I can make that. I'm still in a learning process (and probably always be).
(My reason behind the spotlight is that usually people have their desktop icons on the left side of the screen. The right side of the wallpaper would then stay visible.)

But considering that you think that the left part of the wallpaper is "empty" (I won't deny that), I could add some text or emblem... but then the effect of the spotlight would be gone, or at least that's what I'm thinking. Or maybe If I change the opacity of the gradient so I can add some kind of emblem behind it, as if it's a painting. That'll transforming the theme from that what I have now, to a museum with concrete walls...
I remind your advice for another time, because I'm currently trying to create another wallpaper.

its alright, you don't have to hurry up... I'm am a newbie myself too

you know...
its one of the common reason that wallpapers are meant as desktop wallpapers and usually the left side is being empty... its just that, here in MT, wallpapers are highlighted as art, not just a desktop background.. that's why MT people appreciate the overall appearance of the wallpaper and how each element fits with other...

besides, gradient is not the only thing that can do such spotlight effects... just experiment with the other tools... adding an emblem or text is nice but it doesn't mean that they can destroy the spotlight effect... it depends on how you deal with it
oh! and good luck to your next wallpaper
