OK, I know we're all love anime here, but does anyone think these recent anime awful? I mean since 2009 they really focused more on the fancy editing and neglected all the traditional good parts: lack originality, outdated character types, and some of them were pretty good in the first couple episodes then became disappointing in the end.

Example, Queen's Blade and Qwaser, what is this? I say they're porns before they're anime. And they're even being produced more? Yosuga no Sora, Princess Lover!, they may look decent in the first couple episodes, then you know. Well, this is what happened when anime adapted from typical H-games are allowed to exist. These types are yet another in a long line of "adult" anime series where the word "adult" doesn't necessarily mean "mature," rather simply that they are completely inappropriate for kids.

Action anime like Sengoku Basara became depend too heavily on its own exgrative genre elements while the plot is generic. Familiar faces like Ikki Tousen or Koihime became more "viewtiful" than they were. And Fairy Tail was fun but not that good, it's only a matter of time before it becomes like Naruto and such.

I almost forgot the bishi, take a look at Fortune Aerial, Togainu no Chi, or Hakuouki for example, they all have good-looking eye-candy with the most banal plot, predictable storyline, lack character developments and a really lame ending. Speaking of Hakuouki, I'm not too sure about you guys, but it is one of the deadliest torture devices in history. Nothing really happens, they just sit there and talk trash, give the viewers a reason why the Shinsengumi are honored because of their great feats not just some random incompetent clowns. I want to steal the pet of whomever turned the Shinsengumi into a bunch of fags. After that much of a failed plot, now they decided to kill everyone to make it touching (according to what I've read). Kenshin is probably the safest bet for a Shinsengumi show (if it doesn't count Gintama), at least in those two they are preserved not degraded.

Also, there're a lot of K-on! fans out there, but (no offense) I find it starting to lose its touch. While the first season was enjoyable, the second just has no real plot, less music and more trashy fun. Were they aiming to make a slice-of-life/comedy like Aria and Lucky Star? Hopefully, many things will be improved in the upcoming movie.

Within these two years, only a very few can be counted rare gem (Angel Beats!, Eden of the East, Kimi ni Todoke, etc). Again, this is just my opinions, so what yours?

i think it's true
but i hope this years anime is better.

Obviously every anime can't be good and there have always been bad anime regardless of when they were released. Every now and then there'll be a gem, which will be worth the wait, and in the meantime there are still some decent shows being released anyway. You just need to find something that interests you.

I get what you meant, but compare to the years before, the amount of bad anime these days seem overwhelming. Even some unknown traps can be adapted as we speak.

Right now, the ongoing series that I actually enjoy are Infinite Stratos ,Korewa Zombie Desuka, Gosick, Yumekui Merry and most of all, Madoka. Again, giving more emphasis on Madoka. Madoka just blew me away from being a generic mahou shoujo series into a very dark one which no one expects. Outstanding visuals and unique artstyle plus a solid story sure makes it on the top of my list. Anyways, I don't think all the recent anime releases are bad, they just focus too much on fanservice. Seikon no Qwaser had a nice concept but too much fanservice kept it from giving the story it wanted to tell to the viewers. H-adaptations wouldn't be adaptations without the H, would they? But I guess they're squeezing it all out since I heard of a news that ecchi anime would be banned or something... which is either a good or bad thing.

no i dint, sry...haha. So u think ecchi anime are considered kind of bad anime, but i must agree with yasuga no sora, it is like watching hentai, and the story line is so... they base on the game, using each character's route, this is like Wth.

Being an ecchi anime doesn't necessary make it bad. But these recent anime are like focus on the "outside" (fancy-looking artwork to blind the audience, generic plot, etc) and less "inside" (in-depth storyline, character development, etc).

I'm currently watching gosick and it looks good so far^^

I also have the feeling that there aren't that many good new anime out there. Or at least not many that would catch my interest.

don't worry there are changes coming. I don't know if they'll continue to produce the said anime of now, probably change the age drawing and the age to buy it more than likely. I'm not an ecchi fan so I pretty much been dragging out my old stuff and patiently waiting for something good to cross my attention again. I don't mind if it has some bishi, I mean I would rather see some bishi than an overdose of ecchi, high school of the dead, I rest my case there. that could be why I liked the skull man, casshern sins and sengoku basara (tiny bit of ecchi, tiny bit of bishi all action, how anime use to be). maybe more might come along, maybe some old ones will appear that isn't dirtied up with ecchi. I mean harem, ecchi, h related, come on give us some "old school" anime again. like trigun, witch hunter robin or wolf's rain for goodness sakes >.>

It can also depend on one's tastes.

As I mentioned in another thread, ecchi and fan-service aren't necessarily bad nor does it make an anime bad, but it's HOW an anime delivers and portrays them that can affect one's view of it. Ones like how they did in High School of the Dead kind of ruins how things are going as it's just thrown in your face whenever they can, thus it can ruin various moments going on. Not to mention they GREATLY exaggerate them.

Infinite Stratos is pretty good so far. It's far from a "typical" harem anime so far too; the male protagonist (Ichika) is actually NOT a totally wussy, hesitant, unpopular, etc male lead that just has the beautiful girls drop into his lap out of nowhere or anything like that, but is actually confident, assertive, takes the initiative (asking for help when he didn't understand the whole IS business), and stands up for himself. The 2D mixed with CGI is good-looking and the action is smoothly done.

I think IS and Gosick is still ok so far, hope it wont go bad. but luckly there is still harem without ecchi lol so rare(i am talking about IS). I heard from my friend tht there might be better anime coming soon. So just wait and see...

I feel exactly the same way. Infinite Stratos has completely surprised me on a lot of fronts. The first and foremost being the elimination of the incredibly wussy male main character. Back during El Hazard and Tenchi Muyo, it was understandable why women went after the main male character. They were strong characters and while they started off weak, they showed heart and determination. From 2000 onward, I've seen a great decline in this and instead we're forced to view abusive female characters who aren't the least bit cute and pathetic examples of a male protagonist. I've been really pleased that both this year and last, this current stereotype is starting to break.

What I'm also happy about is while Ichika is somewhat dense, it's not a blindingly obvious form. It's a legitimate reason for misunderstanding. You can actually understand why he doesn't perceive things in a certain manner because of how vague the female characters around him are. I'm so use to seeing female characters expecting male characters to understanding something that is completely impossible to see, or expect them to know something that is never presented in the series. It's a big reason why I avoided harem series like the plague after awhile. This series alone has rekindled my love for a good, strong harem series. Here I thought it wasn't going to be possible resurrect, but I find myself greatly enjoying IS.

As in terms of anime itself, I've seen a huge amount of growth over the past few years. No longer are series a bunch of schlock that try to cram as many broken characters and fan service into a series, but rather we're getting more well developed characters. It's the best of the old, combined with the animation and quality of the new. Series like GOSICK and Fractile have greatly piqued my interest lately. I also found a handful of series last year that I greatly enjoyed. I think for the first time since the early 2000s, I'm actually looking forward to new anime series and not longing for the past.

Like An Endless Waltz

I didn't particularly like the 2009-2010 anime season, the types of anime that came out are genres I don't like(especially the bordering on hentai ecchi shows like Queen's Blade and Highschool of the Dead). Ecchi is ok, but only if not thrown in your face every few seconds during an episode. I only saw the recent Gundam Unicorn OVA, 2 of the 6 episodes released last year with the third episode coming out soon.

Yeah, a bunch of the ridiculous ones really cover up some hidden gems from this year so much that people only really see the bad side over the few that were good.

Yea i think recent anime havent as good, although GOSICK, Level E, Kimi ni todoke and Fractale is the better ones this season!
Level E is quite hard to get into but once you do it quite good, of course im not talkin about Angel Beats standard or anythin!

Puella Magi Madoka Magica is surprisingly... ok... I dont really like magical girl stuff since like, well come on, thats for like younger audience. but the art and the visual are superb so im jus watchin it for that really....

Anybody tried Wandering Son as well? Im not a big fan but it's an anime thats like marmite, u either hate it or love it!

Well put it this way. Quality productions tend to increase at a slower pace while all other productions increases exponentially. Although I agree GoSick, Kimi ni Todoke and one other I can't think of has a good storyline with deep character development. Key Production is always good. Yeah, I'm somewhat can be biased but so far, all produced works by the same author was good and had very strong character development and plot. Even though it might be a ordinary setting to start off with.

I totally agree with Weskalia man. Not only the plot quality is going downhill but even the characters (especially female ones) are getting more and more annoying. I started watching Seikon no Qwaser when I saw a scan of the German kid. He looked kind of hot so I thought 'why not?' Only after watching that god-awful series 1st episode did I say, 'ok, that's it for me' It was a load of CRAP that's what it was. If he'd gotten his face off of a girls' breasts then maybe I'd enjoy watching the show better. And what was wrong with those girl's?! Their faces literally screamed: ''OOOOhhh! Suck my breasts harder!"

Seriously, I was like ''WTF?!" O.o

The Hakuouki series was crappy too. I mean all the era period details and character arts were FANTASTIC, no doubt about that but they left ALL the juicy parts out man! I REALLY wanted to see Saitou-sama do the thing with the earlobe and the blushing. T.T Disappointed is an understatement here. Half of the time there was only war going on and I was under the impression that it was supposed to be a shoujo series. Then all of a sudden everyone started to die..... ok, so? What happened? Dunno. What the f**k was Chizuru doing? Dunno. Why did Hijikata have to die after fighting the enemy? Dunno. Was it necessary for him to fight Chikage? Dunno.

Long story cut short: THESE 2 YEARS HAVE BEEN VERY DISAPPOINTING.

However, there are SOME animes that I still like. This is a list:
Naruto (kyyyaaaa! Deidara-dono! AND.... IIIIIIttttaaaaacccchhhiiiii-sssssaaaaammaaaaa T-T T-T T-T )
Bleach (Gin was actually a nice guy! Sweet! Aizen is HOT and of course all the ESPADAS! (- Halibel, she's ok i guess)

All yaoi animes have been very good actually. Currently they interest me more than crappy shoujo series. So glad I gave Okane ga Nai a chance. Really was beautiful! The artwork, lighting, Ayase-san was ADORABLE! Hell, I'm a girl and even I get jealous of a BOY! So want an Ayase-body! Kyyyaaaa! I want someone who'll love me unconditionally too! Kanou is THE MAN! (bit evil though T.T)

Ok, enough babble. Sorry for rambling so much. Pleasure to comment in this thread -- sesshai. ^-^

Sadly, the Naruto anime has fallen back onto (pointless) fillers again like the 1st series...at least the previous ones were actually more relevant overall...

Super Yandere Commander

yes, i feel that...
too many moe in recent season, and i've been bored of the big 3 (you know, naruto, bleach, one piece)

yep, i feel that too. hope this year's will be better.. /sigh
