Help with Blue Submarine No. 6 wallpaper?

Everyone really helped improve my last wallpaper, from my last thread- so, before posting this new wallpaper, I'm bringing it over here to see if it can be improved. This features Blue Submarine No. 6, an anime I plan to start watching very soon (you know, right after finishing these 500+ episodes of Detective Conan... yeah, totally happenin' real soon) At first, this was going to be just an avatar, but I liked the outcome of it so much, I remade it into a wallpaper. I love how it turned out, but getting a different perspective would really help. :)

This scan, film grain textures (1, 2), "Starry Grunge", a few other minor, textures, as well as a coffee/tea texture that I made myself (which accounts for Kino's main texture, and the overall shade of the wall), and some hopefully subtle, but helpful lighting make up this wallpaper.

detective Conan isn't scheduled to end anytime soon so branching out is a good start :D blue submarine 6 is so much shorter only four episodes :D but I really like that, for some odd reason, here as of late, I've been more and more into grunge sort of design. the right is fine, but that empty left space, sort of void like. it needs something, unless you're passing it off as the side of the submarine, in that case you could watch through the anime and then capture a few of the key components of submarine markings and numbers and then place that there. but that's about all that I see wrong with it, I'm certain others will help you along, I only capture the big picture, others possibly see more than I do. over all thus far, looking really good in my opinion.

My firts thought is that you should take it easy on the textures, if the scan gets too much the pixels will be too fret. You see the reddish (some almost turns into green) parts in the artlines? I know it's a certain raw and damaged effect when doing this but don't overdo it! And watch out for the reddish and mottled sideeffects.
Overall I like the position of the scan, a grainy concept fits it well too! Kepp it up :D


The actual wallpaper is fine, I don't think it's bad at all. However the BG is a bit weird for me D: the girl blends into white and the guy blends into black so is it like symbolic of yin/yang? Well, if so, I think it'd be nice to have them in the center, that way there's equal amounts of black and white :) But that's just my opinion, I'm sure it'd work with them to the side like that.

I actually like the way they both blend into their respective corners - Kino, being the upbeat, optimistic one into the light and the guy (forgot his name, it's been some time since I last saw this, lol) into the dark. I agree that maybe centering them would fit the idea more but they follow the rule of the thirds right now, so I guess it all depends on you. :3

Also, you can always add some text into the background and blend it well with the grunge brushes. Something that goes well with the two of them or the whole mood of the wall/series. I really like this so far so I hope to see it in the gallery soon! Keep it up! :D

Whoa, it's been a while, hasn't it? Sorry about that; I've been having computer problems recently, and almost lost the file with the wallpaper.

As for the suggestions, thanks for all of the ideas thus far: I've centralized the both of them + removed some of the burned effects & grainy texture.

It looks pretty good so far. I'd just tone down the textures a bit in both versions. While I realize you were going for that grungy, gritty look, it's perhaps a tad too gritty, lol. I also like the way you incorporated your sig into the wall. I wish you luck with it and hope to see it in the gallery soon! :3
