The Light of Hope

The Thirsty Waves

A lonely ship sails through the vale.
Where none but the shadows of cliffs do fall,
And they the calm river may claim
Who through it, but, patiently crawl.

But when the water churns with the salt;
Where the land disappears and so does ‘the’ life.
Then the ship on the waves may rise and fall.
And life to survive seems to strife.

The captain awaits the arrival of the storm;
While the crew hastens to fasten the sail
Conscious though so nothing can go wrong;
While harsher and harsher grows the gale.

Even furious gets the foaming brine
And the ship’s starboard hits the sand.
Nothing at sea can, for long be fine
And nothing at sea can come to a stand.

The noise now steadily multiplies,
When the torrent gushes fearfully.
The lightening accompanied with thunder strikes,
Whilst the waves toss the ship carelessly.

The mast and sail now depart
And water gushes in through the stern.
The crews’ hearts almost tear apart.
Steering steadily without the sun.

Miserly the ship sails through the gale.
Lo! Some crew off the deck do fall.
And to be on deck these men do crave.
But the sea fiercely devours them all.

A few companions lost.
A few brave men out there at sea.
And it’s anyone would see of them last,
After there souls at last have been set free.

But no time to mourn.
Even o’er valiant death.
’Cause death sometime each one does call.
And the ocean in repose dose fret.

Not a trace of land to take refuge.
Not a ray of light to guide.
But with a new zest in them infused
They pray to god to help them strife.

Darkness envelopes its own cenotaph.
The ‘Bedwin’ its burden still bear.
Floating still without a mast.
Through the thirsty waves did it tear.

Years and years at sea did it seem,
Though it was but one night.
When they approached close to a reef;
And lo! There they saw the light.

Turning impaired they head straight to the shore,
Beside the light they saw.
And soon it was dawn that broke
When the ship’s anchor finally, the land did claw.

The ‘Bedwin’ no more did steer,
And with all the time to rejoice
Not forgetting though the men they lost at sea
Which had been truly vice,
They said a word in praise of God,
A word to rest these souls.
The captain did, the first-mate gently plod;
As if he was stung by a drone.

Ne’er did mankind experience such a storm.
Ne’er did the ‘Bedwin’ sail again.
It was summoned to be the fury of God.
When all that shielded was an ‘Amen’.
