Favorite Gaming Genres?

Right, so. There are all kinds of genres and sub-genres of games that are appreciated by the gaming community. I myself am trying to get a more diverse experience of games than I currently have. (I'm also trying to pass all of my classes. We'll see how that works out.) So I was wondering, are there any favorite genres among MT's gamers? If you have a favorite, what makes it so special to you? What games would you suggest from the genre?

Hmm, well I've played two three* types:
- puzzles/logic-based (Laser Tank; Lemmings; Supaplex) <- these WILL eventually make you want to chuck your computer out the window;
- shoot everything that moves (Duke Nukem 3D; Quake 1, 3 and 4; Doom + some older MS DOS ones);
- sandbox/life simulation (Sims 3) <- basically killing Sims.

Tried a "vampires vs. werewolves" RPG but it was boring: too much grinding and too many uncool people at higher levels picking on the lower levels ones (better stats = higher chance of winning the "battles" and more experience gained). Amusingly enough, it was an internationally-open game (open to all countries), yet the newsletters I kept receiving were exclusively in German, lol.

As for favorites, Supaplex was one of the first games I ever played on my first ever computer, and for some reason the first laptop I had already had Quake 1 installed on it. Still haven't finished Supaplex to this day (111 levels, man) but I know roughly everything about Quake. Duke Nukem 3D is a blast to play because Duke keeps saying cheesy one-liners (warning: language) and some of the aliens make genuinely creepy noises.

I like pretty much any type of RPG. I also like puzzle games (quite a lot of RPG's have puzzles in them), horror survival, adventure, platformers and action/hack&slash. I used to like fighting games quite a lot but got mehish to them.

As you can see, half my list exists out of things that makes you think of strategies...wait...I also like RTS games. Forgot about that...I haven't played any in ages but I truly like them. Most RPG games these days are pretty bad...everything is done for you and you just don't think at all! Almost like a zombie and plain boring. Still some exceptions...which I love. Horror survivals..retro ones were awesome. I can't wait for..whats it called...I forgot the name after so long. Some new game with RE creator guy (was it the evil within?). Has fun puzzles and tends to bring some chills up your spine. Surround + high volume + dark = best gaming experience for the genre. Adventure games have always been pretty fun to do, not much to say...just fun and enjoyable. Platformers is a genre I grew up with. Wanna be a good gamer? Get used to platformers to get skills for any type of game. Action games are awesome to play. There is basically the DMC type and the DW type...I like both.

Fighting games...dunno, I only play Smash Bros these days...or consider it fun to play.

i have: PSX, PS2, PS3, SNES, GAME CUBE ,i had pc engine but one day my family came at home and my little cousin broke it ...
i was very mad because this console is very rare TwT

my little cousin was 5 years old ^^ what really sister with a ps3 you can play online with it ? i didn't know

About Tsa ...he is always using a pc for playing i think i will ask him .

with Xbox i know it's possible :)

yes but is not easy i can't sis and honestly i am not intressted i prefer playing on my own or with my brother ^^

I don't really have a favorite genre so it's hard to classify.

Growing up, I was a huge fan of sports titles, racing games, as well as platformers.

As I got older, I got more into Action Adventure, Platformer, Role-Playing Games (Both Japanese and Western) and it just started to expand from there. I even enjoy casual games, visual novels, adventure games, you name it! So long as it's an enjoyable adventure with a good story, strong characters or something that will keep my attention and pull me in, I'm there!

My first game was a Run and Gun game and Platformer,i am much fan of action RPG than simple RPG,racing games,FPS,sport games especially boxing ,Casual Games sometimes,Visual Novels i never tried these games genres...i 'm curious to try something new

I agree with sir Cy Ninja the most important thing is a good story and charismatic protagonist and good characters.

you never tried to play survival horror games?

Btw i really don like racing games at all But fightings are really better
And indeed the real good story is really important
And i don care if the characters are not good looking But story is more important :3
