Whenever I read a manga or watch anime, there are certain things that stick out as being normal in-universe but common sense nudges at me that they're not actually normal in real life. One obvious example is the way sex is handled most of time (no, you can't go in just like that, you need to prepare first), but another one that comes to mind is that school uniforms are NOT that short or skintight in real life.

Have you seen any examples (barring magic stuff) of things that would be normal in-universe but completely different in the real world? :o

If you can't handle me at my best, then you don't deserve me at my worst!

Another example: you can't punch a person in the face and make them fly like they weight nothing, it's impossible. Fights in real world aren't as epic as they are in anime. And speaking of skintight clothes, you can't see a guy's abs through a school shirt..

ぬいぐるみ !

well when you get a nose bleed you don't bleed "that much" aka a river !

another one is, no one can eat that much and be that big, and in the next scene and be totally skinny or never gained any weight if they over eat.

you cannot fly, let alone on a cloud.

(yeah to tell what I read/encounter is now seen) ;)

^ 100% agrees with that! I even read some manga in which they "did that" in school.I mean who has such a might to do that stuff in school or at least I've never seen someone doing that.

Umm and yeah, with the uniform stuff, I never saw a guy's legs that long, slender and Hot in real life as they show in Anime.
And ONE THING THAT I CAN'T GET IN ANIME/MANGA ARE HAIR STYLE! AND ALL THOSE HAIR COLORS! PINK, GREEN AND LIKE THAT!
I've never seen such spiky hair of someone xD though I like them!

And I think there is whole Genre within Slice of life Meta genre, which is Fall in love with Teacher.
I mean I've never seen any girl to fall for a teacher, and I think this genre is highly controversial, who wants their daughter/son to fall for a teacher?

Anyway, what does mad mean exactly? Aren't we all a little mad?
Don't we have to be somewhat mad just to go on living, to go on hoping?

@ Xuan: if real life rules applied, I'm pretty sure Naruto would be the size of a mountain due to all that ramen. Then again, there are people with crazy fast metabolism out there and considering how he's always running around and jumping and whatever else orange-suited ninjas (lmao) do, he must be burning a lot of calories.

Quote by HuesinSomeone has been reading too much ecchi manga owo"

Lmao you have no idea how many visual novels I have to look up to tag characters. My ISP must be seriously shaking their heads at all the anime porn traffic to my computer XD (I swear it's for TAGGING)

IIRC that's done to differentiate characters, which is hard enough when most of the time there are like 4 face templates: bishounen, sculpted mountain, cutesy girl and tough girl. Much easier to remember "red-haired dude" and "blue-haired dude" *coughcough*

OMG I used to rage so hard whenever the Arya/Ezra pairing got airtime in Pretty Little Liars (which got too stupid for me to continue watching). I can understand a difference of 2-3 years, but most teachers are at least 6-7 years older than their students, and that's a pretty big difference as far as mental development goes. Sometimes I'm surprised how different I am now compared to how I was in high school, and it's been only 4 years!
------------------

Oh, oh! Student councils don't have that insane amount of power over school rules! As I understand, they're more of a middle-man between the students and administration but don't have the power to change rules, run so many events or decide what to do with a big part of the budget.

Here's another one: why TF does Naruto wear bright orange? That's, like, the opposite of the point of being a ninja!

^Yes, this is one thing that I would think of a lot when I was beginning with manga & anime. Whenever I tried to explain to someone what manga/anime is, I was like "small noses, huge eyes, and hair colors and volumes you can't even imagine".

Remember that message you left in my guestbook about the usage of blue and orange in recent movies? Sooo, Sasuke and Naruto. Blue and orange. No, but honestly, the entire series always gave me that impression that everything is shaded in the warm colors in their ninja world. There were these images of Naruto with the Leaf Village in the BG and you know, the houses and the rocks were always orange and brown... Plus, Naruto is a comedy to a great extend so I guess this color scheme is a good choice for the series instead of more dark or dull colors like in Basilisk, for example.

And to contribute to the thread, I get a feeling that everything in Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou would be more than surreal irl. (I really need to watch this thing.)

I know this goes in another thread, but I would change the AUTHOR of Naruto and put someone else who at least knows something about ninjas.. pfft.. orange ninjas with blonde hair..

I remember catching a few episodes on TV and they were supposed to take a practical exam of sorts, I guess? They were divided into teams, anyway, and had to find certain items in a forest. Never mind Sakura in pink, how the hell do you camouflage yourself in bright orange in a forest, lmao. I saw some eps where they seemed to spend most of the time in dark-colored places, too.
The cyan/orange contrast is the only reasonable explanation IMO. And he's the protagonist so he's gotta stand out somehow (the other charas aren't dressed in such bright colors, more like gray and dark blue). Personally, I understood Sasuke; if an airhead like Naruto was following me around so much, I'd want to smack him into oblivion too.

You CLEARLY know nothing about Japanese people. Like 70% of them obv have pink hair/green eyes, blonde hair/blue eyes or white hair/red eyes.
Unless they're flamboyant foreigners, in which case they're either stuck-up Englishmen or loud Americans who want to hug/kiss everybody.

IDK about Japan, but no one here cares if you go out wearing your high school uniform. You wouldn't do that if you were planning on getting in trouble anyway, why have another way for people to identify you?

Speaking of stereotypes in anime, people from south america (no matter the country) living in japan are all dark skinned giant luchadores, for some reason D:

Actually, Naruto doesn't need to hide, you know. He's so damn powerful no one constitutes any danger for him. Hea, Sakura in bright pink is also questionable but honestly, all the kids have their colors sooo...
And totally that about the protagonist! tumblr again, sorry. And Naruto in particular has blond and blue hair which I believe is considered highly exotic and attractive in Japan.

In Japan it's pretty normal as well. But I heard it's slowly going out of fashion and teens start to wear casual clothes more often.

Lmao forgot about the luchadores. Can't forget the dark-skinned, arguably-hispanic-or-black but somehow blonde girl who loves fighting!

Quote by elisadevelonAnd totally that about the protagonist! tumblr again, sorry. And Naruto in particular has blond and blue hair which I believe is considered highly exotic and attractive in Japan.

Lmao, so right. At least in Shingeki no Kyojin you get some blondes here and there but no freaky hair colors like blue or green. It's not that out of the ordinary for the crew in SnK either, since most have Western-sounding/inspired names too.
Well, impracticality of his outfit aside, at least they made Naruto's color scheme OK?...
Sailor Moon somehow averts this in that regular people also have weird hair colors (her mom has purple hair). And yet no one wonders how a black-haired man (her dad) and a purple-haired woman (her mom) can produce a brown-haired boy (her brother) and a blonde-haired girl (Usagi)...or how a black-haired man (Mamoru) and a blonde-haired woman (Usagi) can produce a pink-haired girl (Chibiusa)...

Japanese people aren't as obsessed with anime and manga as the West would believe. In fact, a lot view a&m as childish and embarrassing to like ("otaku" is not a compliment either).

I can, but I'm too lazy to do so :P
I forgot about them.. well, at least the girl luchadoras are cute (?), but the dudes are all scary dudes that look too old to be in high school x.x

The answer is.. cheating. Everybody is a cheater in anime, that's why they have children of different hair colors. And everybody is ok with that. At least that's my theory xD

Oh yeah, add that one to the list too: high schoolers that look like they're at least 10 years older than they're supposed to be XD
Though considering the fact that the US loves casting 30-somethings as teenagers, I'm not sure it's that abnormal in entertainment nowadays...

Quote: Everybody is a cheater in anime, that's why they have children of different hair colors.

Then it should be way too easy to find the real father of a kid, when you have a handful of green-haired people running around they're bound to be related somehow XD

I highly doubt everyone in all-girl or all-boy dorms wants to hook up with each other o_O #ThingsYouLearnFromYaoi

I recall the very opposite phenomenon in anime. I once saw 2-3 eps from a series (I can't remember the title) about some teens (maybe 16-18 y old) but the art style made them look like 5-6 year old kids. I didn't even realize at first that they were supposed to be older and was wondering for the first 20 mins how such young kids can live alone already. xD

Quote by Huesin Everybody is a cheater in anime, that's why they have children of different hair colors.

Actually, don't the Japanese make characters' hair different colors because it would be way too dull if everyone was dark-haired in anime? The Japanese have all dark hair so I guess that can be the reason for the crazy anime hair colors.

Come to think of it, people would probably think he wasn't a ninja if they saw him dressed like that. Genius.

Quote by Monu-chanAlready read everyone's comment and yet no one notices this sort stuff? ToT

To be fair, girls with big breasts aren't unusual at all in the real world. It's the ones that have boobs 2x the size of their head that you need to watch out for, lol.

Quote by elisadevelonActually, don't the Japanese make characters' hair different colors because it would be way too dull if everyone was dark-haired in anime?

That's another good reason. Depends on the nature of the show, really: if it's more serious and realistic, you're bound to have charas with crazy hair only if they dye it. Whereas with regular ecchi, shoujo and/or harem anime it's just another distinguishing trait for the charas (black-haired girl = wallflower; green-haired girl = brains, usually; blue-haired girl = ice queen etc.)
As for the age, it really depends. Sometimes you watch an anime with teens going to high school and one of them looks the part but has the voice of a 40-year-old that's been smoking all his life. Watching Daily Lives of High School Boys now, Tanaka's voice is really deep compared to the others'.
Never mind the 30-year-old that looks like a loli. Urgh.

Sir Lulu

One thing since I just started on this forum and noticed the hair color part that always stood out to me is how there is no way we can get our hair to stand like they do in a anime. Gravity doesn't allow for some of those styles.

Instead of a sign that says "Do Not Disturb" I need one that says "Already Disturbed Proceed With Caution"
