Vertical Line on Scans?

page 1 of 1 4 total items

This problem just started and I have no idea how to fix it. A vertical line sppears every time I scan an image. I have cleaned the glass and the bottom of the scanner cover. I have also unplugged everything and tried scanning again, but the problem still persists. I tried troubleshooting online, but I cannot find a remedy for my specific product. Most of the solutions I find seem to be telling me to pull the scanner apart and clean the strips and what have you, but I'm not sure my scanner can even be taken apart like that. I have an HP Deskjet F4480 and here's a sample of what happens when I scan, note the straight line going down the scan to the left.

Any suggestions?

That's really the fix! What makes the line is an insanely tiny piece of paper or dust sitting over one of the lights, and it's being pushed all the way down the scanner bed each time it scans. So it gets scanned instead of the book. You don't necessarily have to wipe it off, you could probably blow it off with canned air if you can get under the glass. Using a lint cloth is probably the best idea though, since that way you don't stir up any other dust in the machine.

Welp, I have no idea how it happened, but the line is now gone from the scans. I was jigglin' the scanner around quite a bit when I was seeing how I could get under the glass, so that might have dislodged the obstruction. I am so glad that I don't have to take it apart if it happens again. I'm going to keep an aerosol can handy from now on! Thank you very much!

Nice to know that works too! So long as it gets moved :)
