Some of you probably know the infamous Law 3037/2002, a temporary Greek law that was enforced in 2002 and temporarily banned all video games in Greece.

This law in question was supposed to ban illegal gambling at internet cafes and modified arcade cabinets (SOMEHOW they had no problem with legal gambling despite the fact that many people were losing their fortunes and destroying their lives because of them). The problem was that the law was so badly written that it implied that it banned all forms of video games instead.

In action this law only affected arcades (until they dropped the law years later after a huge fine by eu) and for a short period the internet cafes. You could still buy, sell and play every other kind of video games (PC games, consoles games etc) without any problem.

More details about this video games ban at my blog article:

In my homeland(China),the conservative part of the society banned all game console.
And it nearly destroyed the future of all the PC-game in China
People couldn't get many elite games
At first time, the mmo game are very popular during my childhood
But with the rising of the Mobile Games, games from console and computer have a lower develop speed
Recent years, the laws were taken down
But the development of PC-game still face many difficults

i never understood why China banned game consoles but they were fine with pc games. i know it's easier to ban game consoles than banning pc games but still.

By "conservative part" you mean Chinese Communism Party?

How exactly? Since I'm not aware of that.

Barely since China would still ban harmless games like Animal Crossing New Horizon.

Probably correct. But things were more flexible

"On the afternoon of January 6, 2014, the General Office of the State Council issued a notice allowing foreign-funded enterprises to engage in the production and sales of gaming and amusement equipment"

The review of the special edition version is very slow, so games such as Pokemon Let's Go are still under review in 2024, even ns will have to exit the game console environment

Home game consoles have not been widely used, and domestic game manufacturers rarely get involved in console games. At the same time, the development of game companies has been slow
