I find the sub-section names of the Scans section quite misleading.

When I hear/read "Shoujo-ai" or "Shounen-ai" I think of Homosexual love, and not about girls or guys in general (call me perverted, whatever). Thus I think it would be more fitting if you renamed them to "Bishoujo" and "Bishonen".

I dunno really why they're named that way, and it might be just my fault since I never ever had any japanese-class and thus don't get it.

yea, thought so, too. But these would be ecchi/hentai-scans then...or not?? ^^

It's not what you think if you think what I think.

I'm am a master of hentai.

Ecchi is just perverted, like panty shots, bikinies, nose-bleeders but no nipple or clit to be scene.

hentai is like all out bare or at least bare nipples and/or clits. do you want me to get into detail?

DAMN YOU GUYS, YOU GUYS NEED SOME ANIME 101!!!

Shounen-ai are anime series which are most likely watched by guys and has a guy theme to it. Like Naruto, Getbackers, Initial D, and DNAngel. Love or the main part of the story is generally revovled about the MALE who is also THE MAIN CHARACTER.

The only problem about Shounen-Ai is that people generalize it as YAOI (BOY/BOY) LOVE, which not true to the meaning of the term. Most male oriented anime you see are shounen-ai which female fanservice. There are too many people who think most anime is shoujo-ai because there are female characters and fanservice. This is not true IF the main character or the story revolves around the GUY.

Shoujo-ai are anime series which has a female main character or is a female theme to it. Like Sailor Moon, Yami no Tabibito to no Han, Tenshi na Konamaiki, and Kaleido Star. Love or the main part of the story is generally revolved about the FEMALE who is also THE MAIN CHARACTER.

The main problem about Shounen-Ai is that people generalize it as YURI (GIRL/GIRL) LOVE, which not true to the meaning of the term. A REAL SHOUNEN-AI theme would most likely a guy who is fallen in love with a guy, but has problems with herself as a sexually confused girl who most likely goes in heat at time or doesn't know what do to around boys.

DONE! I AM PROFESSOR DJ!!! AND I'VE TAKEN JAPANESE 403 (ANIME CLASS). Anyone has any more n00b anime questions?

ACTUALLY E-man you're wrong. (I had trused what you said `cause you SEEMED like you knew what you were talking about-- obviously I was wrong. =P)

Literally "Shounen-ai" means boy love. Shounen-boy, ai- love. This IS yaoi, but to a lesser degree, series by CLAMP where guys are rather feminine and are always embracing and close-- on the border of sexuality.

Literally "Shoujo-ai" means girl love. Shoujo-girl, ai-love. This is close to Yuri, but it's a lesser degree (again). Series like Utena are Shoujo-ai, where the girls are VERY close to lesbianism and even kiss on a few occasions.

Let's just freaken replace Shounen-Ai with "Picture of Guys" and Shoujo-ai with "Picture of Girls" and another category called "CUTENESS!"

cuz it seems we have a debatable argument over the meaning of those two terms.

I asked one of my friends who ACTUALLY COMES FROM JAPAN (exchange student) and he says most anime are Shounen which has the male lead character like Daisuke/Dark in DNAngel while Shoujo has a female lead character like Usagi/SailorMoon from Sailor Moon.

The only problems is the end of each term. Shounen-ai, which is in your case boy love. So in other words, we are both right due to technicality =_=*

To DJ: Thank you so much for all of the explaining XD Although I know the different between shoujou/shounen-ai or ecchi/hentai, sometimes it is just hard to tell where to put the scans/pics.... for example I've got a X scan... this series contain both shoujou/shounen-ai element... you can think of it as a fight series (battle between two groups of people and they do fight alot...) , or you can think of it as a yaoi series (which you can find many guy-to-guy relationship in X), or you can think of it as a shoujou series (since Clamp is the author and the manga publish in Asuka which is "suppose" a shoujou manga magazine) so... I don't know... I just think of it as a more shounon-ai type... but for some people they may have a different point of view... so somehow it's depending on how the person sees thing... but of course we have to understand what the terms mean in order to decide... and DJ you did a good job by giving us the definition ^^ so, no one is actually wrong in here ^^
